June Boxycharm 2023

Hey guys! Can you believe that I’m posting my Boxycharm before the end of the month? I got my box pretty early this month so I had lots of time to test out the products and get this review up on time. Let’s get into the box!

The first item I got was the Beauty Bakerie Lemon Bar Face Palette. They call these shades ‘universal’ which I don’t know how they could be. The bronzer shade works perfectly for my skin tone, but the contour shade is just a touch too dark. I don’t mind the highlight shade but prefer something more peach than yellow for highlight. The quality of the powders is great though. I’ve received many Beauty Bakerie and I’ve always found the quality to be good. I do see myself using this palette again but I don’t see it becoming an holy grail. Price: $18

The next item I got was the JLo Beauty That Hit Single Gel Cream Cleanser. This cleanser is a gel-to-cream that is meant to remove impurities and makeup from the skin. I didn’t test the makeup-removing abilities but I found it was a fine second cleanser. It lathered well and left my skin feeling clean. My only complaint is that there is nothing *special* about this cleanser. If I’m going to be paying $50 for a cleanser, I would prefer it had some extra ingredients to help with my acne or skin texture or something. This is comparable to the Cerave cleanser which is half the price. So while I like the cleanser and will use it, I don’t think it’s worth the price. Price: $38 US ($50 CAD)

The first item I picked was the THISWORKS Stress Check Sleep Lotion. Wow, I love this lotion. It’s in a squeeze bottle which is easy to use. The lotion is hydrating and absorbs quickly into the skin. My favourite part is the scent. It’s a blend of lavender, chamomile, and patchouli oil. It’s calming but with a little something-something from the patchouli. I love this and I would recommend picking it up (it’s currently on sale!). Price: $15 US

The next item I picked was the MUDMASKY POREfection Serum-Infused Primer. Normally I don’t choose primers but I finished a few recently so I thought it would be fun to try a new one. This primer is meant to pore-minimize, mattify and blur the skin. I thought the primer was fine. I found the pore-minimizing to be minimal and didn’t notice any mattifying. I didn’t have any issues with the primer but I also didn’t notice a huge difference using it. I’m going to play around with it more. Price: $49 US

The final product I picked was the Too Faced Too Femme Heart Core Lipstick in Too Femme. It can be a gamble to pick lipstick because I don’t know what the shade is going to be like. The shade Too Femme is described as a medium nude pink and I do find it leans on the more cool-toned side. I don’t wear a lot of cool-tones but I also don’t own many cool-toned lipsticks so it’s nice to have at least one in my collection. The formula is very comfortable on the lips, with a glossy-creme finish. It was comfortable on the lips and wore nicely throughout the day. I can see myself picking this lipstick when I want a cool-toned shade. Price: $26 US, $34 CAD

The overall total value of the box was $146 US. I don’t think there were any bad products, just some that I liked more than others. Let me know what you guys think of the box in the comments!

Project Pan Update January 2022 – The Final Update

Hey guys! I wanted to give you an update on my project pan products. As the title suggests, this is going to be my final update as I won’t be doing a project pan in 2022. I’ll be sharing the update on my products first, then I will explain why I have decided to not continue doing a project pan. Let’s get into it.

If you don’t know what a project pan is, the idea is to focus on a few products and either hit pan or finish the product. I started doing a project pan in January 2021 but switched products in June. In today’s update, I’ll be showing you the final progress pictures of the products I picked in July. I forgot to take progress pictures a couple of months so sorry about that!

The first product is my Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Eyeshadow Palette. I hit pan in one eyeshadow during my last update and haven’t really made much progress since. I think there is a decent dent in the shade beside it but I still have far to go before hitting pan. It’s much harder than I realized to hit pan on eyeshadow.

I hit pan in my   Maybelline City Bronzer & Contour Powder, but I did it accidentally. I was tapping my brush against the side of the compact and the bronzer cracked. Part of it fell off and on my leg. I threw out the part that cracked and fell out but the rest of it is pretty solid so I feel comfortable keeping it. But in all honesty, I was nowhere near close to hitting pan. When I look at the bronzer at the side there is still a good amount left. Probably wouldn’t have hit pan if it hadn’t broken.

A product I actually did hit pan on is the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in the shade Paaarty. I can’t remember when exactly but pretty sure I hit pan while I was filming. I’m pretty happy that I hit pan, but to be fair I’ve had this blush for years and it’s a mini so I feel like it’s easier to hit pan.

I said in my last post that I’m tired of using the TooFaced Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder. And that feeling has only grown since my last update. It just leaves a weird yellow cast which I’m not a fan of. While there is a little bit left, I’m at the point where it’s difficult to get it out of the sieve. I am throwing out this powder because I don’t want to use it anymore.

Another product that I’m sick of is the Temptu Liquid Glow. I’ve been using this highlight since April. Except I actually gave up in late November and just started using other products. The cap is absolutely disgusting and I could clean it but I think I’m just going to get rid of it. I believe it was a limited edition product anyways, so there is no point in promoting something you guys can’t get. That being said, I did make pretty good progress, but this just shows to me that it takes forever to get through liquid highlights.

And that’s the update on my project pan products. Now before I share why I’m not doing my project pan anymore, I wanted to share a few things I did enjoy about doing a project pan. First, while it does take a while to hit pan on things, it’s pretty satisfying when I do. Second, it made my decision-making process pretty easy in the morning because I knew what products I was going to use. If you have a big collection this can be helpful if you feel overwhelmed. Finally, it helped me realize that I actually didn’t really like some products and that it was time for me to either throw them out or pass them along to a better home.

Now onto the reason why I am not continuing a project pan. As you can tell by some of my thoughts above, I got pretty sick and tired of using the same products over and over again, especially when I wasn’t very fond of them. Another downside is that I have a very large collection, so I felt weird using the same thing over and over again and therefore neglecting everything else I own. I also wasn’t just the most practical all the time. I often wouldn’t pause my project pan to test products out for my blog. Or sometimes I just wanted to use something else to create a certain look.

I think there are pros and cons to doing a project pan but ultimately won’t be continuing to do it. That being said, while I might not be doing a project pan, I think I still want to focus on using certain products. I did find it helpful to have a few products set out that I want to use, but I think I want to rotate them more frequently than a project pan requires. Doing a project pan requires a long-term commitment to actually hit pan on anything. I think I want to switch up my products every couple of weeks. I have a large collection so I want to give equal love to all my products instead of a select few for the year.

So those are my thoughts on my project pan. If you’ve ever done a project pan before, let me know if you agree or disagree with my thoughts, I’d love to discuss!

Project Pan Update October 2021

Hey guys! It’s time for another project pan update!! I actually forgot that I was supposed to do an update this month which is why it’s up a little later. Better late than never!

If you don’t know what a project pan is, the idea is to focus on a few products and either hit pan or finish the product. I’ve been doing a project pan since January but in July I decided to switch up the products I use. I picked five products, so let’s get into it.

The first product is the the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Eyeshadow Palette. I’ve hit pan on one eyeshadow which I’m very happy about! I never managed to do that in my last project pan. I also think I’m making good progress on the second brown shade on the top row. I’m hoping to pan another two shadows by my next update.

The next product is the Maybelline City Bronzer & Contour Powder. This is the never-ending bronzer. I use so much bronzer, especially since it was summer. And I’ve barely made a dent in it. Hopefully by my next update ‘ll have made some visible progress.

I might not have hit pan, I’m do think I’m making progress with my Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in the shade Paaarty. I can see the outline of the pan underneath pretty clearly now. I think by December I’ll hit pan.

I can’t wait to finish this powder because I’m sick and tired of using the TooFaced Born This Way Ethereal Setting Powder. I find that it leaves a yellow cast on my skin and just isn’t the best at setting my face. But I’m SO CLOSE to finishing it that I’m just going to power through and finish it.

A product where I’m making good progress is the Temptu Liquid Glow. I wanted to be at the bottom of the Boxycharm logo by this update. I’m not there yet but I’m quite close so I’m pretty happy about that. I will say that I am getting bored of using this highlight because I’ve been using it since April. I think I’m going to use it until December and then take a break.

And the product I am officially retiring from my project pan is the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in the shade Fenty Glow. I do really like using this lip gloss, but I like changing up my lip too much to do a project pan with a lip product. Some days I don’t want to wear a gloss and other days I want something cool toned so I don’t use this gloss. I think just based on my personal makeup habits that it doesn’t make sense to do a project pan on a lip product.

And that is my project pan update! I am going to continue using all the products except for the lip gloss for the next couple of months. I’ll post an update in January and will probably change up the items then. If you guys are doing a project pan let me know in the comments how your progress is going!

March Boxycharm 2021

Hey guys! Time for my March Boxycharm post! Another month is over – honestly March felt like the longest month ever. Glad that winter is finally behind us and hopefully onto warmer weather. Let’s get into this month’s box.

Boxycharm, beauty subscription box, Limecrime, Limecrime Venus 3, TooFaced Damn Girl Mascara, Maven Beauty, Maven Beauty Setting Spray, Lavish Wet Brush Cleaning System, KAB Cosmetics, KAB Lip Oil

The first product we have is the Limecrime Venus 3 Eyeshadow Palette. This is the perfect spring palette. I probably would have included it in my spring eyeshadow palettes post if I had received it earlier. The Venus 3 palette includes a mix of purples and pinks. There is a nice mix between darker and softer shades. I was able to create a bold eyeshadow look and also softer looks for everyday wear. There is a nice mix of textures as well. The shades Beam and Heavenly are glitters that don’t have a lot of base pigment to them whereas Paradise and Beloved are your classic metallic shimmer. The shade Rapture is unique because it’s more of a matte with glitter running through it. Overall I like this palette, but I don’t see myself necessarily reaching for it everyday. I do enjoy these tones but I usually gravitate towards warm browns. If you’re interested in the palette then go ahead, the quality is great. But I don’t see this being the everyday palette for most people. Price: $38 US or $49 CAD

Up next we have mascara! I don’t have to buy mascaras anymore because I feel like I get a new one every few months. 😂 This month’s mascara is the TooFaced Damn Girl! Mascara. So far it’s okay. I find it hard to rate a mascara at first because I do find that the formula can change as it dries out. This mascara is meant to give volume, lift and provide a curl hold. I will say that it does achieve all of those things, but those aren’t things I necessarily look for in mascara. Similar to how people with different skin types need different foundations, people need different things from their mascaras. I don’t struggle with lift or curl hold. I do like some volume but I prefer length. Not a huge fan of the wand. It’s super large so it’s hard to apply without getting mascara on my eyelid. Overall I’ll continue to use it because it’s not bad. But it’s not my favourite mascara. Price: $26 US or $33 CAD

My favourite product in the box is hands down the KAB Cosmetics Hydrating Lip Oil. It gives the hydration of a lip balm and the shine of a lip gloss. It’s not sticky, if anything it feels smooth and soft on the lips. And it lasts so long on the lips. I’ll apply it and four hours later my lips still have some of the oil on. It has a soft coconut scent which is so yummy and the large doe foot applicator makes it easy to apply on the lips. Mine has a blue shade that goes on clear on the lips, but there are other shades as well. This has become my new go-to lip balm it’s so good! Price: $20 US

KAB Cosmetics, KAB Lip Oil, KAB Hydrating Lip Oil, lip oil, lip balm

The next product in the box is the Lavish Wet Brush Cleaning System. Honestly not sure about the legitimacy of this product because the website is kinda weird. So proceed with caution. The actual product itself isn’t bad. There is a little circle of soap that is meant to clean your brushes. On the back of the lid is a little silicone pad that can help clean the brushes. I have a larger pad that I use to clean my brushes. The soap was okay. It did a similar job of cleaning my brushes compared to other brush cleansers. I did notice that a few of my brushes had some residue left though. You know when you don’t properly wash out your conditioner and your hair is kinda greasy? That’s what a few of my brushes felt like. I guess I didn’t probably wash the cleanser out of those. I also found my face brushes weren’t as clean as my eye brushes because the silicone pad is small so it didn’t have the surface area to clean them. Something I wanted to mention is that I’ve tried the Beauty Blender version of this product and I had mold grow it in. So I switched to the liquid cleanser. Not sure if it would also happen with this Lavish cleanser but just something I wanted to note. Price: $15 US

The final product is the Maven Beauty Rose Water Setting Spray. This setting spray has rose water in it that’s meant to help lock in your makeup and prevent smudging up to 16 hours. When I first tried this in my unboxing video the scent was quite strong. I’m not a big rose person, it’s just not my favourite scent. It also has alcohol as the second ingredient and I could smell that as well. While I don’t like the scent the setting spray itself is pretty good. This is a setting spray that will set your makeup and make it last longer. It is not hydrating. If you have oily skin you’ll love this, but if you have dry skin you’ll hate this. The alcohol in this helps the makeup last but can be quite drying. Overall I think it’s a pretty good setting spray. I think a similar one that is cheaper and easy to purchase is the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray. The Milani one also doesn’t have an awful rose/alcohol scent. Price: $22 US

The overall total of the box is $121 US. Overall not a bad box. I mention this in my video but there are a few brands that have been known to be controversial in this box, and I tend to avoid those. If you want more of my opinion on the topic check out the video because I go into more detail. But overall I think this box is decent. I love the lip oil. The rest of the products aren’t bad and I see myself reaching for them again. There were no products this month that were bad, but I wasn’t wowed, that’s all. Let me know in the comments if you agree or if I’m being too harsh.
