March Boxycharm 2020

Hi guys! Today I am sharing my March Boxycharm! My post on Tuesday featured one of the products in my box, but now I am giving my full review! Also, I would like to note that last month Boxycharm said that they were switching to virtual cards but I got a physical card in this month’s box? What’s going on Boxycharm? Anyways, now onto the box.

Photo 2020-03-13, 12 39 48 PM

The first item in my box is the Farmacy Beauty Very Cherry Clean Cleansing Balm. Now I believe that this is just a cherry version of their original Green Clean. Since I have used their original formula and have another cleansing balm open I decided to not open this one. But I like their original formula! It does a good job of removing my makeup and leaving my skin feeling clean. The only thing is if I accidentally get it in my eye it’s annoying. The cherry version smells like maraschino cherries. Price: $34 US (the original is $45 CAD).

Next is the Sutra Beuty Mini Ceramic Curling Iron. If you watched my video on Instagram (@xoxoxoleelee), then you know that I like this mini curling iron! It does a great job of creating nice, tight curls. This would be the perfect curling iron to travel with because it’s small but does a great job. Price: $49.99 US

The lip product this month is the Becca Glow Gloss. I got the shade Carmellia and I was worried because it’s a bright pink. But these glosses are sheer, so it gives a nice hint of cool-toned pink to the lips. The formula is nice because it’s not sticky. But it has a weird scent, very herbally and almost like tea tree? Luckily it’s not very strong. The packaging bugs me though. It has a rounded bottom and a bump on the top. So I can’t stand the gloss vertically. It’s not the end of the world, but I would prefer at least one flat side. Price: $22 US

Photo 2020-03-25, 2 38 04 PM

My least favourite product is the Hank & Henry Living in Color Palette. First, the packaging is extremely bulky. I can get behind bulky packaging if it’s cute or serves a purpose, but this is just annoying. Next, I don’t like the colour story. It’s pretty boring and there isn’t any shades in the palette that I think are unique or make me want to use the palette. Finally, the quality of the eyeshadows aren’t that great. The mattes are patchy and the glitter shades need to be packed on. For example, the shade Mariana Trench is very similar to Mermaid Boy in the Colourpop Dream St palette. The quality of the Colourpop shadow is way better. The only good shade is La Canela, which I think is a different formula than the other shimmers. Overall a dud palette that is not worth the price: $27 US

The final product is the Spongelle Body Wash Infused Buffer. I like receiving a product like this because at least I will actually use it! Since I got it I’ve been using it every single time I’ve showered. The lavender scent is strong but not overwhelming. It lathers up well and has been lasting multiple washes. The only thing is that I find that the sponge is scratchy at first and takes a while to become soft. Overall I love using this, but I wouldn’t go out and repurchase it. Price: $16 US, $22 CAD

The final total of the box is $149 US. Honestly, this box was good except for the palette! Just goes to show that you have to test the products before you judge them! Let me know what you think of this month’s box in the comments.

Februrary Boxycharm 2020

Hey guys! Wow, the month has gone by so quickly! Is it just me or is 2020 going by in the blink of an eye? Anyways, today’s post is about my February Boxycharm! Something different this month is that they sent a virtual insert card instead of putting it in the box. While it’s great to save the paper, I do collect the cards so I’m sad to not have a physical one anymore. But saving the environment is more important than my card collection haha! So my box thing month:

Photo 2020-02-11, 2 09 05 PM

I will say that when I first got my box I was pretty underwhelmed. Most of the products are base products and nothing screams out as being fun or interesting to try. But after testing the products I’ve come to realize that this is a pretty decent box.

The first product is the Ciate London Everyday Vacay Coconut Setting Powder. I have many thoughts on this powder. First, the packaging is trash. There is no sifter so when I open the cap powder gets everywhere. Besides the bad packaging, the scent of coconut is pretty strong. If you are sensitive to scents stay away. It lingers on the face when I first apply it but fades away after an hour. While this is advertised as a translucent powder, it has a white colour to it when applied to the face. It’s nice for me because I can use it as a brightening powder, but if you have a darker skin complexion is powder is also a pass. The formula is great and makes my face look smooth and soft. So overall this powder has some flaws but at least the formula is nice. Price: $22 US.

Next up is the Alamar Cosmetics Complexion Brush Trio. If you read my last post about my favourite makeup brushes, then you know I love the quality of Alamar Cosmetics brushes. These are also great quality! I love the brightening and complexion brush. I found the bronzer brush a little too stiff and dense for bronzer. But I saw Kathleen Lights use the bronzer brush for foundation the other day so I want to try it out that way! Price: $36 US

Photo 2020-02-26, 1 32 33 PM

Next is the most expensive product in the box, the QMS Medicosmetics Intensive Eye Cream. This is a step up from my Sephora Collection Eye Cream. I have been using this eye cream for about three weeks and I have noticed a slight difference in how dark my under eyes look. I think with continued use I might see more of a difference. I also do like that this is a day and night eye cream because that way I can get more use of it. Price: $132 US

I have this theory that brands use Boxycharm to get rid of products before they discontinue it. I have received multiple products that within a year is off the market. This Kat Von D Cake Pencil Liner is my example. I know that Kat Von D is going through some re-branding, and they are probably just trying to get rid of this product to roll out their new brand. I know also know a lot of people don’t like Kat Von D, so I find it surprising that Boxycharm carriers a controversial brand. Either way, it’s a gel liner. It’s a boring item to receive in my box, and you can definitely find a cheaper and better quality liner than this one. Price: $26 CA, $19 US

The final product is the PUR Cosmetics 4-in-1 Correcting Primer Energize & Rescue. PUR is a staple brand in Boxycharm, they have their products all the time. This primer is apart of a whole range of primers. This primer is supposed to smooth and soothe the face before makeup application. It’s basically a nice moisturizing primer if you ask me. The primer does smell like aloe and coconut water. It gives a nice appearance to the skin but doesn’t do anything for the look of pores or the longevity of my makeup. Overall it’s a decent primer but nothing spectacular. Price: $17 US

The final total of the box is $226 US. I don’t think I’ve had a box worth over $200 is a while! I might not have been wow-ed by the box, but it was still pretty good at the end of the day. Let me know what you think in the comments!

January Boxycharm 2020

Hey guys! Today’s post is everyone’s favourite – my Boxycharm post! I always love receiving my box and reviewing the products for you guys. I had a lot of questions last time I posted it to my stories, so I thought I would explain Boxycharm for those who may not know what it is. Boxycharm is a subscription service that sends five full-size beauty products every month. They have a ton of different options, so I would check their website for full details. It’s $25 US, so around $30 CA. I have been subscribed for three years now and while there are some things I don’t like about the box, overall I love it! So here is what I got in this month’s box.

Photo 2020-01-31, 1 47 02 PM

The first product is the Wander Beauty Trip for Two Blush and Bronzer Duo. I received the shades Bellini/Costa Rei. I like the blush more than the bronzer. Both have a great formula that is easy to apply and looks good on the skin. I find the bronzer looks slightly ashy on my skin. It’s not an awful match, and I will continue to use it. But I think there are better bronzers on the market. Price: $36 US, $43.20 CA

Next is the Ace Beaute Vintage Dawn Palette. I was very happy to receive another product from this brand because I enjoyed the other palette I have from them. The eye shadows are great quality. The mattes are pigmented as blend well. The blue in the palette was amazing, and a matte blue is a hard shade to formulate. I love the colour story because it’s so unique. It’s basically the rainbow but really interesting shades. It’s not an everyday palette though, which is slightly annoying because I can’t use it as much. But it makes me feel interested and watch to create makeup looking at the palette. There is a good-sized mirror too. Great palette! Price: $34.99 US. (Check out my Instagram for looks using the palette!)

The product I was super excited to receive was the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask. This is the mini size. I always see the mini when checking out at Sephora and always held back, so it was great to receive a product that I have been thinking about trying in my box. Unfortunately, this mask is not what I expected. Other sleeping masks that I have tried are like heavy moisturizers. This one I recommend putting on right before bed and washing off it in the morning. It pills off your face, which is weird when you’re just chilling around your house. I find the pilling weird, so it makes me reach for other masks. But I do like the smell, reminds me of Watermelon freezies. Overall just make sure to follow the instructions exactly. Price: $22 US, $29 CA (for the mini).

This product I was very unsure of but actually kind like! The Grande Cosmetics GrandeDrama Intense Thickening Mascara has pretty cheap packaging. It’s very light and the outside feels weird on the hand. So I thought I wasn’t going to like this mascara. It’s not like it’s advertised but I still like it. It’s supposed to be thick, voluminous lashes, but I like that it gives long, wispy lashes. So overall I like the mascara, but because it doesn’t perform as advertised, it has cheap packaging and it’s over-priced I wouldn’t recommend. Price: $25 US

The final product is the TooFaced Diamond Light Highlighter. There has been a lot of drama surrounding TooFaced as of late. So I am not going to review the product. All I will say is to do your own research and determine whether or not you want to purchase the product.

The overall price of the box is $153.99. I liked this box! While I might not be in love with every product, I received products that I am interested in and enjoyed trying out. I have received boxes where most of the products were duds or I received products that I don’t use. But this box was pretty good. Let me know what you guys think in the comments!

December Boxycharm 2019

Hey guys! Today I am sharing with you my December Boxycharm! I recently posted my 2019 Boxycharm favourites and my 2019 beauty favourites. Now back to Boxycharm! I got my box right before I went to Punta Cana, so I didn’t get much of a chance to test out these products. If I change my mind about any of these products I will let you guys know!

Photo 2019-12-13, 1 37 12 PM

The first product is the Storybook Cosmetics Fairy Tales palette. I got Little Red Riding Hood specifically. The formula of the shadows is great. The mattes blended well and the shimmers applied easily to the eyes. But I have a few problems with this palette. First I’m not a huge fan of the colour story. I get that it’s Little Red Riding Hood, so obviously there has to be a red shade. But it’s not the most wearable, everyday palette. The packaging is super cute but also extremely bulky. I think they could have cut the palette in half and it would have still been cute. I will display this palette on my vanity, but I don’t think I would use it very often. Price: $35 US

Next up is the Brow Makeover Kit by the Brow Bar. First, I can’t use the illuminator because it’s too deep, but the brow shades match me perfectly. The powders were mediocre, nothing to rave above. Same with the brow gel. But the wand is too large to it’s hard to use. Overall it’s not bad but I would recommend other products over this one. Price: $30 US

Next is the Seraphine Botanical Lip Exfoliator. It’s a good lip exfoliator. With winter here, my lips are quite dry and this goes a good job of scrubbing away all the dead skin. It also has a nice scent. But I have to wipe my lips after, and I find that all the hydration goes away after that. So while it does a good job exfoliating, I have to use a lip balm after which is annoying. Price: $24 US

My favourite product is the Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream. It reminds me of my favourite Laneige moisturizer. It is very gel-like, but doesn’t leave my skin sticky or anything. It sinks into the skin quickly and is very hydrating. I like this moisturizer and will continue to use it! Price: $35 US, $51 CA

The final product is the Ciate Marbled Light Illuminating Blusher. I received the shade Halo. This reminds me of the Laura Gellar baked blushes. This blush is very easy to apply and blends out well. It also gives a nice slight sheen to the face. I also don’t own a blush like this shade. I will continue to use this blush. Price: $26 US

And that is my December Boxycharm! The final price was $154 US, or approximately $199 CA. I like the blush and moisturizer, but the eyebrow kit was a real dud for me. What did you guys think? Let me know!

Boxycharm 2019 Favourites

Hey guys! Today’s bonus post is my favourite Boxycharm products that I have received this year. I picked seven products that I like and would recommend purchasing!

Photo 2019-12-29, 2 22 13 PM

From February is the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. I know this mascara is a holy grail product for many people, but I have never personally tried it. Well, I fell in love with this mascara. It makes my lashes look full, long and fluffy – everything I want in a mascara. I love the packaging. It’s simple but also feels heavy and luxurious in the hand. The only thing I don’t like is that the wand is very large, so I have to be careful not to get mascara on my eyelids. But overall I like this mascara!

The second product from February is the Sol de Janerio Coco Cabana cream. I love this cream. The consistency is a little more gel-like than the original but still very moisturizing. It’s also not your typical coconut scent, the hint of praline makes it more complex. I brought this cream with me to Europe so now it just reminds me of that trip!

From March is the Cover FX Perfector Face Palette. This is the best travel face palette. I brought this to Europe and Punta Cana with me. The mirror is the perfect size to see my whole face. The blush and contour are very pigmented, so I use a light hand with them. But the highlights are gorgeous and I like that there is a pink and gold shade. The brightener shade is perfect for the inner corner and brow bone. The only shade I don’t like is the finishing powder. It’s full of glitter and I would prefer a matte shade. The packaging is very sleek but does get dirty which is annoying. But I will always pack this with me from now on because of the mirror and highlights.

Photo 2019-12-29, 2 22 29 PM

In May I received the GlamGlow GentleBubble Daily Conditioning Cleanser. This has become my shower cleanser. I use this cleanser whenever I’m having a shower, usually after I workout. I’ve had this since May and I’m still pretty impressed that I haven’t finished it yet. It does a good job of washing my face without making my skin feel stripped. The scent is a little weird but it’s fine for the shower. But this is one of my favourite products mainly because of how practical it is and how much I can use it. I don’t use fancy face masks all the time, but a cleanser is something I use all the time. So I feel like I got my money’s worth with this product.

The next favourite is from August. I like the Ace Beaute Glimmer Shadow Duo Set! I accidentally left Cotton Candy in Punta Cana, but that’s okay because Iced Latte was my favourite anyways. These remind me of the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. The main difference is that the Colourpop ones have more glitter but don’t have as much pigment to them. These Ace Beaute ones have more pigment to them with glitter as well. These shadows are super easy to use but very impactful. I really like them!

Photo 2019-09-06, 12 22 49 PM

From October is the Dose of Colours Baked Browns palette. I’ve always wanted one of these palettes and they did not disappoint. I love warm browns so this isthe perfect palette for me. And I can just add a shadow like the Ace Beaute one to create a full look. Sometimes the basic neutral palettes are the best!

Now I haven’t posted my review yet, but spoiler I love the Saturday Skin Waterfall Glacier Water Cream from my December box. This reminds me of my favourite Laneige moisturizer, but even more gel-like. My skin just loves gels moisturizers. It leaves my skin looking and feeling hydrated. I look glowy and all I’ve used is a moisturizer. I would definitely recommend!

And those were my favourite Boxycharm products. Let me know in the comments what were your favourite products that you received from Boxycharm this year! 🙂

November Boxycharm 2019

Hey guys! I swear November went by so fast. Yet at the same time, the beginning of November seems so long ago. I got my Boxycharm box at the beginning of the month and it feels like forever ago. I was super impressed that I got my box so early this year! Boxycharm has been stepping up their Canadian shipping! Anyways, this month’s box:

Photo 2019-11-10, 2 26 38 PM

This month was the first month that Boxycharm allowed for customization. So I choose the Kypris Antioxidant Dew Quench & Glow Serum. Listen, don’t buy this serum. It isn’t bad by any means, but it is not worth the $90 price tag. It is a lightweight serum, so this wasn’t the deep hydration that I was expecting from a serum that markets itself as a dewy, quenching serum. I would say this serum is nice to use before applying makeup because it left my skin feeling tacky. But overall I wouldn’t say that my skin felt super hydrated after. I will continue to use it because I own it, but it’s nothing special. Price: $90 USD

Next up is the Dose of Colours Liquid Matte Lipstick. I received the shade Nude Mood. I am very happy because for a while I was always getting weird shades that I would never wear, but this one is nice! It’s described as a pinky nude, but I think it is more warmed toned than cooled toned. I do like this liquid lipstick. It’s pretty comfortable because it doesn’t dry down completely. It can smudge if you’re not careful. It can surviving drinks but isn’t eating food proof. But what I did after eating is just apply a lip balm and redistribute the colour around my lips. Overall I like this lippie, and it’s my favourite product in the box.

The next products are the Tula Skincare Star Power Nourishing and Brightening Cosmic Hydrogel Mask. I like that I received two masks because it allowed me to test the mask out to see if I liked it. And well I didn’t really. First I hate how much plastic there was for the one sheet mask. Don’t get me wrong, I get that sheet masks aren’t the most sustainable thing. The sheet mask is two separate pieces sandwiched between two pieces of plastic within a plastic pouch. It just feels bad that a clean beauty brand is so wasteful in its packaging. Then the other issue I had was that I didn’t notice a huge difference compared to other products I own. Like I felt that using my normal moisturizer would leave my skin as bright and hydrated as this mask. If I am going to use a mask it’s because I’m looking for something impactful, or maybe that’s just me. Either way, I don’t think these masks are worth the cost. Price: $22 USD for two, sold as a four-pack for $28 USD

Next Boxycharm  made its first-ever brush set. And well I’m not the biggest fan. First, they are very soft, but they are very dense and stiff. I feel like I have to work hard to blend anything out. Because they are so dense they are not good for powder. They only really work with creme products. I also find the shape of the handle weird and they don’t have a very good balanced feel in the hands. Overall I didn’t like using these brushes. I’ve received a ton of brushes in my box before, and these were my least favourite. Price: $35 USD for the two brushes.

The final product is the Dominique Cosmetics Celestial Thunder eyeshadow palette. This is a mini version of the Celestial Storm that is available both on the website and at Sephora. The one I received can be purchased from the Boxycharm website, but I don’t recommend it. This colour story is just so off and weird to me. I only did one look with this palette because I had no idea what to do. The orange is very pigmented and the brown also pulls very orange. It is impossible to do a simple everyday look. The mattes were really good quality, they blended well. But the metallics were mediocre. I’ve used better. Overall the quality isn’t bad, but the colour story throws me off so much that I doubt I will use it much. Price: $35 USD (the full palette is $58 CAD)

Overall I didn’t like much in this box. I liked the liquid lipstick, but otherwise I was kind of unimpressed with everything else. Sucks because I’ve felt like the past couple months the Boxycharm boxes were really good. And maybe other people liked their boxes because they got different variations. Either way, this one was a dud for me. Let me know your thoughts down below in the comments!

October Boxycharm 2019

Hey guys! I feel like October went by super quick but was also super slow at the same time, anyone else? I got my Boxycharm box pretty early this month, so I have really tested these products out. So here is what I got in my box!

Photo 2019-10-12, 11 48 32 AM

First I got the Skin&Co Truffle Therapy Radiant Dew Mist. The mister on this is so bad. It would spray big droplets all over my face. It makes my face wet, which isn’t exactly the best for makeup application. So I thought maybe it’s more of a skincare spray, and well the results were underwhelming. I would spray it all over my face and it would feel good at the moment, but then my face didn’t feel any different. Not very hydrating. Not worth the price. Price: USD $35

Next is the Iconic London Lip Plumping Gloss. I like this gloss! Some plumping lip glosses can be really tingly or minty. This one tingled a little and had only a light mint smell. I also like the formula. It’s sheer but still has some good colour to it. It liked to wear it over top of lip liner. I liked this lip gloss and I will definitely be wearing it again. Price: $26 USD, CAD $36

Fun fact: I’ve been using the same pair of eyebrow tweezers for years. I don’t even know what brand they have because the name has rubbed off. So it was a little odd to be using the Chella Slanted Tip Tweezers instead of my regular ones. These Chella ones have a funky hole grip on them. It takes some practice to get used to using them. Also, these are super sharp. My tweezers have dulled over the years, but I pinched myself using the Chella ones and also drew blood. They weren’t bad tweezers. Do you have to run out and buy this specific pair of tweezers? No lol. Price: USD $20

Next up is the Touch in Sol Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm. I was pleasantly surprised by this primer! It hydrates my skin and makes it look super dewy but it isn’t sticky. It is very glowy, so if I’m wearing a sheerer foundation I don’t even need highlight. It reminds me of my favourite Dr. Brandt primer. The only thing is that I don’t like the packaging. I wish this was in a squishy tube because I don’t like digging my fingers into a primer to use it. I feel like it came with a spatula but I lost that already haha. Anyways I would just prefer different packaging but still love this product! Price: USD $32

The final product is the Dose of Colours Baked Browns palette. I am so happy that I got this palette! I have been wanting to try the Dose of Colours 5-pan eyeshadows palettes for so long because I have heard such amazing reviews. And those amazing reviews are right! The shades are so creamy, pigmented and blend out like a dream. There is a bunch of kick-up when I dip my brush into the palette, so I always make sure to tap it off because I apply it to my face. I also love the Colours in the Baked Browns palette. They are basic shades that I can use to create so many looks by just adding a shimmery shade on top. I am really happy with this product! Price: USD $32

And that is this month’s Boxycharm! Let me know what you guys thought of this month’s box!

My Favourite Boxycharm Products from the Past 3 Years

Hey guys! This October marks three years of subscribing to Boxycharm! I have received over 180 products from Boyxcharm over the past three years! That’s crazy! To celebrate, I have chosen eight of my favourite products from the past three years. Most products I picked were from past years. I will be doing my annual favourite products of the year in December. Also, I have one item not pictured because it broke – more on that down below.

Photo 2019-10-25, 12 55 22 PM

November 2016 – Studio Makeup On-The-Go Eyeshadow Palette

The first product is from my second box ever and is the only eye shadow palette I decided to feature. I have received many eye shadow palettes from Boxycharm, but the Studio Makeup On-The-Go eyeshadow palette has survived multiple makeup declutters. I’m not a huge cool-toned person, but this is the palette I always reach for when I want to do cool-toned makeup looks. There is a serious dent in the middle shadow because I have used this palette a lot. I received tons of palettes from big brand names and palettes with fun bright colours. But this basic palette does the job!

Photo 2019-10-25, 12 56 01 PM

January 2017 – PUR Cosmetics Mineral Glow Bronzer

Rest in peace my beloved PUR bronzer. This bronzer broke back in April and I have missed it ever since. This bronzer was the bomb. It was my summer-bronze-goddess-glow bronzer. It’s darker than the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, so I like to use it in the summer to deepen my tan. It also had the most beautiful slight shimmer to it. It made my face look so bronzed and health. This was such a bomb product. I decided to not repurchase it because I’m trying to go through some of my other bronzers, but this was a good one.

April 2017 – OFRA Cosmetics Rodeo Drive Highlighter

I received this highlight back in the craze of blinding highlights. To this day OFRA Rodeo Drive is one of the most blinding highlights I own. Just a little creates the most beautiful bright glow. The formula is so smooth. The highlight is not chunky and doesn’t have any big glitter particles in it. It is also a super flattering colour for my skin tone – a gold-champagne. While I don’t use this highlight as often anymore, I still pull it out whenever I want a really bright highlight.

December 2017 – Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara

You know it’s a good product when you repurchase it. I’ve received a lot of good mascaras from Boxycharm over the years, but I decided the Tarte Tarteist mascara is my favourite. This gives me volume and length without making my lashes clumpy. My lashes are prone to getting clumpy, so I don’t often like volumizing mascara. But this one just makes my lashes look amazing. This is my everyday mascara, I love it.

January 2018 – Girlactik Long Lasting Matte Lip Paint

The reason why I like Boxycharm is that I get to try products I would have never had the chance to try. This Girlactik liquid lipstick is a prime example. It doesn’t sell at Sephora, and I probably won’t bother to ship it into Canada. But because I have Boxycharm I was able to discover this amazing liquid lipstick. This is probably one of my favourite formulas because it’s so comfortable on the lips. I also always receive so many compliments on my lipstick whenever I wear it. So while I could have picked many different lipsticks as my favourite, that is why I picked this one.

June 2018 – Battington Lashes

It was a tie between these Battington lashes (in the style Monroe) and my Lashoholic lashes for my favourite pair from Boxycharm. I chose the Battington pair since I recently talked about the Lashoholic ones in my September Product Empties. I love receiving lashes in my Boxycharm because I generally don’t buy them myself. But these lashes have lasted me so well! I recently ripped them (RIP lol). But they lasted me almost a year, definitely worn them like 30 times. A really good quality pair of lashes.

Photo 2019-10-25, 12 55 45 PM

September 2018 – Laura Geller Baked Blush-n-Brighten

Man, I use this blush almost every day and it looks like I’ve barely made a dent in it. I have mine in the shade Tropic Hues and it’s so beautiful. This was the first blush that made me realize it’s nice to have a little shimmer in a blush. It makes me look so healthy and awake. I sometimes forget I received this in my Boxycharm box since I use it on the daily.

February 2019 – Sol de Janeiro Coco Cabana Cream

I love this cream. What I like about Boxycharm is that sometimes I receive a product that I wanted but hadn’t bought yet for myself. I love the original Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream, and when I saw that they had released the Coco Cabana Cream, I knew I wanted to try it. I decided to wait, and bam I got it in my Boxycharm box! I love this formula because it’s also different than the original, so it’s not the exact same product. I brought this cream with me to Europe, and now every single time I smell the cream it reminds me of my time there! I also decided to repurchase it as well once I finished the one I got in my Boxycharm box!

And those are eight of my favourite products that I have received in my Boxycharm! Should I do a part two? Or maybe my least favourite products? Let me know in the comments below!

September Boxycharm 2019

Hey guys! Sorry this post is a little late – I was going to post it on Tuesday but I was so busy I didn’t get the chance to get it up. But it’s here now! This month’s theme is All Access, which I didn’t really get. I did like the products in my box thought.

Photo 2019-09-14, 12 47 15 PM

First set is the MODA 5 Piece Brush Set. I’ve always loved MODA’s brushes. I actually went to IMATS this past weekend (I will write a whole blog post on that), and I learned so much about their brushes. All their brushes are synthetic because they can be used wet or dry. They are so soft and are very durable. I always love getting brushes in my box because you can never have too many brushes! Price: US$27.95

Next is the MAC Cosmetics Frost Lipstick in the shade CB 96. I’ll be honest, I wish I had received the Stila Liquid lipsticks. This shade is a bright orange-red, which is something I don’t wear very often. On top of it’s a semi-lustrous finish. While I love MAC lipstick, this shade is just not for me. Price: US$18.50, C$23

A skincare product is the Dr Brandt Hydro Biotic Recovery Sleeping Mask. I am on the fence about this product. I love the scent of it and it feels super nice to apply. I always use a thick layer so it takes awhile to soak into the skin – probably why it’s a sleeping mask. But I think it might be breaking me out. Every time I’ve used it I got a break out a day or two after. I’m not a 100% sure, because it could be stress or some other product, but I don’t think my skin likes it. I would recommend getting a sample and trying it out for yourself before buying it. Price: U$52, C$68 for a full size, I only got a deluxe sample.

Next up is the Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator in the shade Peach Glow. I have heard so many amazing things about this highlight, so I was very happy to receive it. It gives a natural yet blinding highlight at the same time. It has so glitter or any chunky particles to it, and it blends into the skin very well. I wish I had received Gilded Honey, the gold shade, but I do enjoy the peach shade as well. Price: US$26

The final product is the Violet Voss Essentials Eyeshadow Palette. I have always heard good things about Violet Voss but never got the chance to try out their shadows. And well this palette did not disappoint. The mattes are easy to blend and the metallics are pigmented. They shades just look so beautiful on the eyes. I know the trend for eyeshadow palettes is to be huge right now, but this ten pan palette has such a variety. I was able to create everyday looks but also this super fun green fall look with the palette as well. The quality is just so good that I definitely would buy another palette from Violet Voss. Price: US$29 – this palette is unfortunately not for sale on Sephora Canada.

And that is my September Boxycharm! What did you guys think? What was your favourite item in this month’s box – let me know in the comments!

August Boxycharm 2019

Hey guys! So the last couple weeks have been crazy for me. At the end of summer I was taking extra shifts to cover for everyone who was going back to school. Then I went back to school this week, and it has been definitely overwhelming to say the least. I also feel like I was in a writing lull for awhile, and then I got all this stuff at once to review and well – my life is all over the place. At first I wasn’t going to post this review, because at the time I hadn’t really tried out any products in the box. But now that school has started I am wearing more makeup regularly, so I have had a chance to try the products. Anyways, that is a very long winded way to say here is my August Boyxcharm:

First up is the Steve Laurant Lip Liner. This lip liner isn’t worth your money – Maybelline makes much better ones. I do like the colour; I got the shade Chic which is a warm, slightly brown nude. It would work for a range of skin tones. What I don’t like is that the lip liner is very stiff. I really have to press hard to get any colour payoff. I don’t use lip liners very often, but when I do I like to use creamy pencils, and this ain’t it. Price: $15 USD

The product that I was most excited to try was the Becca Hydra-Mist Set & Refresh Powder. As someone with oily/combo skin, I am always looking for the best powder. I always wanted to try this powder when it first came out, but never got around to buying it. Now after trying it I’m unsure how I feel. What’s cool about this powder is that it claims to feel like applying water to your face when using this powder. This is true. The first time I applied the powder it felt so cool and almost wet. The only thing is that if you leave your powder out/open, this cooling effect goes away. I often pour some powder into the cap, and if I pour too much I just leave it in the cap for the next time I do my makeup. I did this with this Becca powder, and the powder didn’t have the same cooling effect. The cap does have a disclaimer to keep cap close, so just keep this in mind. Now I am on the fence about how I feel about this powder. The first time I used it I baked with it and my under eyes felt sooo dry. The second time I didn’t bake and it wasn’t as bad, but I still wasn’t super impressed. I feel like I have to play around with this powder a bit more. Price: $39 USD, $51 CAD

Next up is the Tarte Big Ego Mascara. I believe this is a new mascara, but I didn’t hear much press about it. This mascara claims to be a lifting mascara, and I definitely would say that’s true. It doesn’t give crazy volume, but does make my lashes look longer. It also lasts long through the day. I find that some mascaras almost ‘fall’ throughout the day, so by the end my lashes don’t look as long. This Tarte mascara lasted me though a good 10 hours no problem. I have yet to compared it to my other Tarte favourite, their Tarteist Lash Paint. Overall it wasn’t bad but didn’t WOW me. Price: $23 USD, $30 CAD

The next product is the Wander Beauty Glow Ahead Illuminating Oil. K I don’t get this product… like what is it? Is it a skincare product? Is it a primer? Honestly I have no idea. I would apply this to my face before applying makeup and honestly I didn’t really notice much of a different. My face didn’t look any dewier with it, and my Dr. Brandt primer is much better at illuminating. My face didn’t feel any more hydrated. I might try using it to sheer out a matte foundation, but that is really the only thing I could think it might be good at. If you have any idea on how to use this product let me know. Price: $42 USD, $50.40 CAD

The final two products are the Glimmer Shadow Duo from Ace Beaute. I was skeptical at first, I won’t lie. These shadows look like a dupe for the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. I was unsure if they would be that good. And I am hear to report that I am wrong, these are amazing. I got the duo with Cotton Candy and Iced Latte, and wow these shades are beautiful. The pink shade has a gold/peach shift to it, which is just so beautiful on the eyes. And the gold shade has little glitter in it that just look so great on the eyes. These shadows are easy to apply using a finger, and they are super pigmented. The only thing is that they are more expensive that Colourpop’s SSS, so they are not exactly a cheaper dupe… I would probably recommend the Colourpop ones over these just because they are cheaper but of equal quality. Price: $25 USD

And that is my August Boxycharm box! Let me know what you guys thought of the products. Also just an update – the part two of my Colourpop haul will be coming out next Friday, so stay tuned for that!
