Drugstore Makeup Guide

Hi guys! Today’s post is inspired by my friends. They are always asking me what my favourite drugstore products, so I thought I would compile all my faves into one post. I tried to stick to just one or two favourites in each category. I have linked all the products to Ulta’s website, but for all my fellow Canadian girls I bought most of these products at either Shoppers Drug Mart or Rexall. Finally, the one product I do not have any favourites are primers because I do not own any drugstore primers. Let me know in the comments which drugstore primers I should try!

drugstore makeup guide

For foundation I decided to go with my current favourite – the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation. I wear a lot of drugstore foundations, so it was hard for me to pick a favourite. I decided to pick this Wet n Wild one because it’s the cheapest while still being a great foundation. It has a matte finish and lasts a long time on the skin. If you still haven’t tried this foundation, I highly recommend you go get it!

While I like drugstore foundation, I usually prefer high-end concealers. A good one from the drugstore is the Maybelline Fit Me concealer. I really like this concealer in the summer when I looking for something that is a little more natural but still brightens my under eyes. If you don’t like heavy concealer I recommend you check this one out, but keep in mind it does need to be set to stay in place.

My favourite powder is a pressed one – the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder. This powder is for all my fellow oily girls out there. I love using this powder when I’m looking oily and need a touch up. It’s lightweight and does a great job of controlling shine. I have hit pan on this product,  I really need to buy a new one.

If you follow my blog or Instagram, you probably won’t be surprised that my favourite drugstore bronzer is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. It’s the perfect bronzer shade – not too orange and no glitter. It gives a beautiful glow to the skin, and it’s so easy to apply. It also smells amazing, which is a great bonus! Everyone needs this bronzer in their life.

A great blush from the drugstore is the Milani Powder Blush. I don’t like a very pigmented blush because I have a heavy hand and can really easily apply to much. This blush is perfect for me because it’s a buildable formula, so I look perfectly flushed instead of a clown. I also think the rose pattern is beautiful.

It was really hard for me to pick my favourite drugstore highlighter because I have and love so many. I decided to pick two that are complete opposites. The first is the Maybelline Master Chrome Highligher. This highlighter is smooth but blinding. It’s very comparable to Ofra’s highlighters but at a much cheaper cost. My other favourite is the Essence Pure Nude Highlighter. This highlight is great for when I want a subtle look. The Essence highlighter is great for no-makeup makeup when I want a natural glow. The shade is also very flattering on my skin tone. Both of these highlighters are great for different reasons.

For setting spray, I recommend the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray. This stuff is great for really locking in my makeup look. If I want to make my makeup last all day, I use this spray. The only thing I don’t like is that I can make my face feel a little tight, probably because of all the alcohol in it. BUT I have almost used a full bottle of this because it just does such a good job.

Okay, I’m not sure if this product is being discounted or something, because it’s not on the Ulta website but I was able to find it on Amazon! The L’Oreal Infalliable 24 HR Eye Shadow in Amber Rush is just amazing. It’s an intense eyeshadow that can be easily applied with a finger. I just blend a matte shade in the crease and then pop this on the lid and it’s a beautiful look. The shade Amber Rush specifically is a beautiful rose gold that I 10/10 recommend.

The best drugstore matte eyeshadows are the ones in the Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows. I own Rose in the Air, and the mattes in this palette are great. They’re not as pigmented as some of my high-end palettes, but they are builable and blendable which is great. If you’re interested, check out this post for a more in-depth review of the palette.

If you like a brush liquid liner, you have to try the NYX Matte Liquid Liner. This liner applicator is probably one of the easiest to use out on the market. It has a fine tip to create a precise line, and it’s really use to create a wing look. If you have hooded eyes, like I do, then you would enjoy this liner. This is the only liquid liner I use because it’s just the best I’ve ever tried.

I have two mascara recommendations. The first is the classic L’Oreal Lash Paradise. It’s not pictured in the photo because I just threw mine out because it was expired and haven’t picked up another one yet. The L’Oreal mascara is great for making your lashes thick and voluminous. The Essence Volume Stylist Lash Extension Mascara is great for making your lashes nice a long. This adds length and a little volume, great for everyday use.

I don’t wear lip liner very often, but when I do I always wear the Maybelline lip liners. Mine is in old packaging, so I’m not sure if the formula is the same. These lip liners are creamy and very easy to apply. I also find that they last pretty well throughout the day. As well, they have a really nice colour selection, so check them out!

Finally, my favourite lipsticks at the drugstore are hands down Maybelline Colour Sensational lipsticks. They are a creamy matte, so they apply easily but still look matte on the lips. They are so comfortable on the lips and last really well through the day. The colour selection is amazing, but I think the nudes are the best. My favourite shade is Daringly Nude. If you don’t own one of their lipsticks, I highly recommend you go buy one right now.

And these are all my favourite drugstore makeup products! I hope you I gave you guys some suggestions for new products to check out! Let me know down below your favourite drugstore makeup products 🙂

What I Pack in my Travel Makeup Bag

Hey guys! So I have been home this past week because it is my university’s reading week! So I have had a week off classes to relax (and catch up on homework lol). Since I am currently living out of my travel makeup bag, I thought it would be a good time to share what I usually bring with me! I’m not going to go into a full review of every product, more why I bring it with me.

So I usually bring two large bags with me, both purchased from Forever 21. I am looking for a really big bag, so if you guys have any recommendations let me know! Anyways, in my larger bag I keep my makeup and then in my smaller bag I keep my makeup brushes. I won’t go into what brushes I bring because otherwise this post would be super long, but let me know in the comments if you guys are interested in a post about that!

Photo 2018-10-12, 12 06 13 PM

I will go through my makeup in the order I apply everything! So to begin, I bring my Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer. This is the only eyeshadow primer I own so obviously I bring it with me!

Next I brought two eyeshadow palettes with me. The first is my Colourpop magnetic palette with a bunch of single shadows. The single shadows I have are from NYX, Colourpop and Makeup Geek. I bring this little palette everywhere I go because it has a matte shade to set my eye shadow prime and basic shades that are great in the crease. I can just throw on some of these transition shades and I’ll be done. Then I usually bring one other fun palette with me. The one I brought for this trip is the Colourpop Dream St palette. I am currently testing it out, so that’s why it’s with me!

Photo 2018-10-12, 12 07 15 PM

I didn’t bring any eyeliner with me because I don’t wear it on average day, and I wasn’t planning to wear any dramatic eye looks this week. I will just use eyeshadow if I really want to line my eyes. The two mascaras I brought were the Tarte Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara, and the Butter London Double Decker Mascara. The Tarte mascara gives me major drama and volume while the Butter London one gives me fluffy, everyday lashes.

For my brows I brought my tweezers and my Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. This is a great brow pencil and comes with a spoolie so it’s great to travel with.

For some reason I’m extra and I bring two primers. At least both are travel size! The first is the Benefit POREfessional and the second is the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. This primers are very similar, I honestly just alternate between the two.

My foundation and concealer honestly depend on which actually matches my skin at the moment. My summer tan is still pretty strong, so I am using the Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation (shade Soft Beige) and the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer (shade 20 Sand) because they are the only products I own that are dark enough for me right now. I’m sure in a month I will be using a different foundation and concealer once my tan fades away.

For powder I am currently using the Cover FX Pefect Setting Powder because it is the only powder that I have in a travel size. But I do really like this powder! I really like travelling with a mini setting powder because it’s not as messy.

Even though the packaging in bulky, I have to travel with my Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. It is just my favourite bronzer – I really need to get a new one soon because I am almost done mine! The blush I use is the one I got in my Sephora birthday gift last year, which is a mini of the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes. I make up for bringing a bulky bronzer with bringing a tiny blush!

Once again, I am extra because I bring two highlights. To be fair, they are two different shades. The first is the Ofra Rodeo Drive Highlighter and the second is the Maybelline Master Chrome Highligher in Molten Rose Gold. I bring these two because they are less expensive compared to some of my other highlighters (aka my Becca ones). So if they were to accidentally break while travelling, it wouldn’t be as costly to replace them.

If you read my latest product empties post, then you would know that I cannot live without these two setting sprays. The first is the MAC Fix + and the other is the Urban Decay All Nighter. I really need to look into getting minis for these setting sprays for when I travel.

Finally, I brought a ton of lippies. I brought two lip glosses, two lipsticks and three liquid lipsticks. They are all either different shades or different finishes. I like to have lots of options for lippies haha! From top to bottom in the photo below: Sephora Collection Outrageous Effect Lip Gloss in XXL Nude, Bare Minerals GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipgloss in Must Have, MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy, Girlactik Matte Lip Paint liquid lipstick in Posh, Covergirl x Katy Perry Lipstick in Catoure, The Beauty Crop GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick in Date Night, and Stila All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina.

And that is what I pack in my travel bag. Products do vary, but these are the products that I am currently loving and decided to bring home for the week! Hope ya’ll have a good weekend!

xoxo

Updated Skincare Routine

Hey guys! It’s been awhile since I’ve shared my skincare routine and I have updated it since then. I have very oily and acne prone skin – my skin still acts like I’m fourteen. I was using Proactive for a really long time, but since I started taking birth control for my acne, I found Proactive to be to harsh for my skin. My skin has cleared up, but I still get the occasional stress zit. I will break down both my morning and night routine for you guys!

skincare routine march 2018

Morning Routine

I always cleanse, tone and moisturize in the morning. I know most people do this at night but it’s just the habit that I am in. To cleanse my face, I use the Philosophy Clear Days Ahead Oil-Free Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment Cleanser (long name I know).  What I really like about this product is that even though it’s designed for oily skin and acne it’s not very harsh. Some products designed for acne can be very strong and irritating but this one is gentle. I feel refreshed after using it – which is great since I use it in the morning.

Next I use the Origins Zero Oil Pore Purifying Toner. This toner is great for oily skin. My skin feels so refreshed and clean after I use this toner. I feel like it really gets all the gunk out of my pores. I wipe my face with this on a cotton circle and let it sink into my skin for a minute.

As I mentioned in my Winter Essentials post, I have been loving the Pacifica Kale Luxe Oil-Free Multi Cream. This moisturizer is vegan (and cruelty-free) so it does not have all the bad ingredients that will clog up my pores. It is also oil free, which is super important for me. I also enjoy this moisturizer because it makes my skin feel hydrated and refreshed without feeling heavy. And you can find it at certain drugstores!

After that I let my moisturizer sink in and then I apply my makeup if I am wearing any that day.

Night Routine

The first step of night routine is to remove my makeup. First use the Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover to get rid of my eye makeup. I personally enjoy using a liquidy remover to get rid of my eye makeup because I find it’s the best at getting rid of mascara. I have been enjoying this Neutrogena one because it’s not too harsh or oily compared to some other ones. The only thing is that it does not have a special cap to stop the flow of the product. So one I took off the cap and dropped the whole and lost a third of the product because it’s just a big open hole. So don’t be a klutz like me when using this product.

If you have read any of my empties post, you know that I love the Garnier Micellar Water to remove my face makeup. I will wet a cotton round and wipe my face to remove my foundation and concealer. It does a good job of removing the makeup and leaves my face feeling refreshed after.

Next to cleanse my face at night I use two different cleansers depending on what my faces feels like. Most days I use the Fresh Soy Face Cleanser. It’s a gentle cleanser use which is all I need after removing my makeup. Double cleansing is good to get rid of any leftover product. It also enjoy the cucumber smell – it reminds me of a spa. The only cleanser I like to use if my skin is feeling particularly oily that day. The Sukin Oil Balancing Pore Refining Facial Scrub has a very liquid consistency with tiny beads to help exfoliate the skin. It does an amazing job of really doing a deep clean and my skin feels so refreshed after I use it. I also personally enjoy the charcoal smell this product has.

After I cleanse my face I will apply my Pacifica moisturizer again. Finally I use a retinoid prescribed by my doctor – the particular one I am using is called Differin XP. I put the cream on top of my acne and it really helps spot treat the area. I personally have much success with this product, but just be careful when using retinoid because they can be irritating.

And that is my skincare routine! Let me know what products you guys like and any that I should maybe try 🙂

Winter Essentials

Hey guys! Today I am sharing some things that help me survive through the cold Canadian winter. Just a miscellaneous of different things that I enjoy and thought would be worth sharing!

Photo 2018-01-21, 2 30 10 PM

First is a super cozy knit sweater from Forever 21. It gets really cold where I live, so I basically live in knit sweater from November to April. I have been really into turtlenecks, but sometimes they can be really a little too much when wearing a heavy knit. I like this sweater because it has a mock turtleneck so it’s the perfect in between. But ya I’m a sucker for any knit sweater really.

Next it’s important to keep my fingers warm outside, so got to have a good pair of gloves or mitts. My dad got me these ones from The Bay last year and I love them! This year they have a different design but the quality of these mittens are great. They have a fleece inside and then a knit outside to keep my hands nice and warm. Also they’re so patriotic! Highly recommend these for all my fellow Canadians.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but the Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm is my favourite lip balm. I own four of these: one beside my bed, one with my makeup, one in my purse and one in my school bag. And I usually have a few backup ones around the house. What I like is that they are lighter than the regular Nivea light balm, but still give intense hydration. It’s great and I will probably continue using these babies for a long time.

Next is a moisturizer. If you guys remember from my Beauty Empties post, I was looking for a moisturizer that would give my oily skin some hydration but also not break it out. I decided to try the Pacifica Kale Luxe Oil-Free Multi Cream. It is designed for oily and blemish prone skin. I decided to try it because the brand is 100% (and cruelty free!) so it doesn’t have as many bad products that would clog my pores. I have been really liking it! I use a tiny pea size amount and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and fresh! It has an interesting scent, but I like it!

Finally, for Christmas my Mom got me a diffuser! Along with the diffuser my Mom got me some essential oils, and the one I have been using the most is the Immune Antibacterial Diffuser Blend from Saje Natural Wellness. I am always sick, and this blend is supposed to help relieve the symptoms of cold and flu. The combination of eucalyptus, myrrh and cinnamon smell like medicated but I love it! I feel like it helps me breathe much better at night!

And these are my winter essentials! Let me know what you guys like to help you get through the cold winter months!

Favourite Beauty Items of 2017

Hello everyone! Happy New Year! Today I’m sharing with you guys some of my favourite beauty products of 2017. I decided to narrow it down to products that were either released in 2017 or were really popular. I had lots of makeup favourites this year but if I shared all of them this posts would be super long haha!

2017 beauty favs

I have two eyeshadow palettes, both of which were created by beauty Youtubers. The first is the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Eyeshadow Palette. I love this palette so much, and whenever I show it to people they can’t believe how beautiful it is. The colour selection just inspires me so much. The eyeshadows in this palette as also some of the best I have ever used. This is probably my favourite eyeshadow palette that I own. I highly recommend this that!

The second eyeshadow palette is the first product by Laura Lee’s new brand, Laura Lee Los Angeles. I really like the Cat’s Pajamas palette. I like to travel with this palette because it’s smaller but has a nice range of shades to create many different looks. This shades are also super buttery and pigmented. Another palette that I have been really enjoying in the few short months that I have had it.

A favourite foundation that I have tried this year is the Wet n Wild Photo Focus foundation. This is a great drugstore foundation. The coverage is medium to full coverage and is very buildable. It also have a nice finish – it’s matte but it doesn’t look to matte. It gives a soft look to the skin. I have received many compliments when wearing this foundation, and it’s so cheap!

The L’Oreal Lash Paradise has been basically the only mascara I have worn this year. I have people thinking I got lash extensions when I was wearing this mascara. It gives me equal parts length and volume, but unlike some mascaras I find it is not hard to remove. It is a slighty drier formula so it doesn’t get all over my eyelids. I highly recommend this mascara!

Finally, a product that I find was very underrated but I loved was the Colourpop Blotted Lipsticks. I have the shade Drip and it’s a great shade. It gives a nice wash of colour but it’s matte so it doesn’t slip all over the place like some tinted lip balm. I also find that it’s not that drying so it’s the perfect way to add a little colour!

And those were my favourites! Let me know in the comments what your favourite products were that I should try out!

Best and Worst of Boxycharm 2017

Hey guys! Sorry (once again) for being so MIA lately. I had my two exams back to back and then I left the next day to go to my cottage for Christmas. There is no WiFi at my cottage, so I wasn’t able to really post much. But now I’m back and ready to get back to posting more regularly!

boxy favs

Today I have rounded up my favourite and least favourite Boxycharm items that I have received this year. I have included five of each, and one bonus because I know it was limited edition.

Best:

1) Ofra Rodeo Drive Highlighter in April’s Box (Price $35.00)

I was very excited to receive this highlight. The Ofra highlights have received a lot of praise in the beauty community, so it was awesome to get a talked-about product in our box. This highlight is creamy but super pigmented. I always reach for this one when I want an intense, blinding glow. I use it all the times and my friends are very jealous that I got in it my box.

2) PUR Mineral Glow Bronzing Powder in January’s Box ($25.00)

This bronzer is a prime example of testing multiple times. When I first tried this bronzer I found it a little too dark and slightly orange for me. But then when I tried it again in the summer once I got a tan I loved it! It is the perfect bronzer shade for when I am tan. It is easy to blend and gives a very nice bronzed look. I’ve used it so much that I broke the lid but I still use it because it’s so nice!

3) Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlight in Prosecco Pop in October’s Box ($38.00 USD, $48.00 CAD)

If you couldn’t tell, I like highlights. And these Becca ones are great! I already had Champagne Pop so when I got this one in Prosecco Pop I was very happy. These highlights are smooth and beautiful on the face. The Becca highlights are some of the best on the market, but they are not cheap so it was amazing to receive on in my box.

4) The Beauty Crop GRLPWR Liquid Lipstick in Date Night in August’s Box ($19.00 CAD)

I was originally going to put the Ofra Liquid Lipstick on the list (that is why it is pictured) until I remembered this liquid lipstick. This is why I love Boxycharm, because I get to try products from brands I have never heard of. This liquid lipstick is great. It is pigmented, comfortable to wear and lasts really wear. I love wearing this liquid lipstick when I go out because it stays put really well even when I am drinking a lot. I have also received so many compliments when wearing this liquid lipstick. An underrated product for sure, but one that I have really enjoyed.

5) The Brow Gal Convertible Brow Powder to Pomade Duo in May’s Box ($35.00)

I didn’t think I was going to like this product, but I LOVE it. I have never used a brow powder before, and I really like this one. It is pigmented and easy to use. I find that it lasts really well in my brows. As well, I was able to do my friend’s brows with this duo, and she has blonde hair! I still continue to use this product to this day, it is definitely a favourite!

Worst:

1) Project Beauty Spray.Set.Go in July’s Box ($19.00)

The spray on this is just horrible. I can’t even remember what the formula is like because I couldn’t get over how bad the spray was. I always ended up with large drops of spray all over my face. I find with setting sprays that how the spray works is just as important as the formula itself, and this one sucked.

2) Allegory Story Lip Gloss in Plato’s Cave in April’s Box ($15.00)

I could not tell you what the wear time of this gloss is because I never wore it more than five minutes. This gloss is a mocha brown shade, but I found it was not pigmented enough. For on my lips it looks like smeared chocolate. I feel like someone with a darker skin tone than me would really enjoy this lip gloss, but it was just not my thing.

3) Laqa & Co Cloud Lips in Storm in November’s Box ($17.00 USD, $21.00 USD)

Now in my November review many people told me that they loved their Cloud Lips, so it might just be this particular shade. But I did not like this lip product. The website says this lippie is supposed to be full coverage and it is not. I found it to be very streaky, which is not great for a dark lip colour. I would try to build it up and it was just a patchy mess. Another lip product that I never wore.

4) Beaute Basics Bronze Essentials in December’s Box ($39.95)

I’ve only used this product three times and I already dislike it. First, the packaging in very cheap. It’s made of plastic and doesn’t close very well, which for a $40 bronzer is not okay. Second it has an awful glitter overall that I found awful. It is almost impossible to dip my brush in without getting the glitter on my brush, so I just get glitter all over my face. It is not a good look.

5) Measurable Difference Concealer Palette in April’s Box (Price $26.00)

I understand why this palette could be good. It has 16 shades so it could be used for concealer and contour, or for freelance. But I hated the consistency of this palette. I found the concealers to feel thick on my skin and look cakey, but they also gave zero coverage. I know they suggest adding a facial oil to improve the consistency, but as someone with oily skin I don’t have facial oil so this tip was not helpful. I threw out this palette before the month was over, that’s how much I did not like this palette.

BONUS:

Liquid Glow by Temptu x Boxycharm in May’s Box ($29.50)

Another highlight, I know, but this is great! I loved this product during this summer, and also for no-makeup-makeup days. It gives a subtle, dewy glow to my skin. I just apply a little with my finger tips on top of my skin before I apply powder. It look nice by itself, but when I layer a powder highlight on top it looks super blinding. The liquid highlight is still available on Boxycharm’s website.

And that is my round of my Boxycharm products! Let me know what was your favourite or least favourite products that you got this year!

June Beauty Favourites

Hey guys! I hope everyone had a great June and long weekend (if you are Canadian or American). Here are my June Beauty Favourites!

June Favourites

First is the Bare Minerals GEN NUDE Buttercream Gloss in the shade Must Have. It is a neutral rosy colour so it adds just a hint of colour without being overpowering. I find the consistency is perfect – not too goopy but still shiny and long lasting for a gloss. The perfect lippie for the summer.

Next is the Lash Paradise by L’Oreal. I personally like this mascara for every day wear. It adds a decent amount of length and some volume. I find that does make my lashes look a little clumpy but I personally don’t mind that look. I also find that the mascara lasts well through the day. Finally it is super easy to remove. Overall a very good drugstore mascara!

The second lippie that I have include in my monthly favourites is one I received in my Boxycharm this month. It is the Ofra Cosmestics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Santa Ana. It is a berry rose shade and it is the perfect bold lipstick for the summer. I pair it with a simple eye look and I feel so glam. The formula is very comfortable and while it does not last through eating it is easy to reapply.

Finally is the blendercleanser solid. This cleanser can be used for both beauty sponges and brushes. I have been looking for something to use to clean my beauty sponges and this worked wonderfully! It also did a great job of cleaning my makeup brushes. I wet the brush, swirl it in the soap and then rub it against the pink silicone pad it comes with. My brushes have never been this clean before! Very much worth the cost.

And those are my monthly beauty favourites! Can you believe we are half way through the year basically? Crazy!

May Favourites

A few days (okay almost a week) late, but here are some of my May Favourites! This is anything that is not beauty related that I have been loving this month.

Fashion:

dixie haul 3

My favourite shirt this month is this super causal and comfy shirt from a Sirens outlet. It is described as a caged v-neck shirt and I wearing this shirt when I’m running errands or going to work. I pair it with leggings and it’s very comfy but looks more polished then a sweatshirt. I’m currently wearing this shirt right now!

Music:

I have been working a lot this month, and at work we are forced to listen to the easy listening kind of stations. So my new music time has seriously be shortened. I still managed to have a few favourites.

Probably my favourite song right now is High by Sir Sly. It has a good beat and is just great to listen to while driving. I can’t help but sing along! I feel like this is definitely going to be my indie song of the summer. A classic indie band is alt-J, and I have been loving their song In Cold Blood. Now alt-J is not everyone’s cup of tea, but there music is just so weird and different and this new song is no exception.

Finally, like every other white girl out there, I have been obsessing over the song Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Beiber. I was actually a big fan of latin music before Justin Beiber came along and sang this song. It is super catchy and I will probably hate it in two weeks but for now I’m loving it.

Books:

I have only finished one book this month but I loved it! It was Mosquitoland by David Arnold. The story follows Mim as she travels on a Greyhound bus from Mississippi to see her mother in Ohio. Mim is a very interesting character and the book made me think about mental illness and disabilities is a very different way. A very cute book I highly recommend it!

TV/Films/Youtube:

My favourite show that I finally finished this month was the second season of Outlander. It is based of a book series of the same name and is about a women from the 1940s who travels back in time to the 1700s in Scotland. I am a big history fan and I just love this show (I am even happier that it is on Netflix)! I would recommend this show to anyone who loves historical drams (like The Tudors) or fantasy-ish shows like Game of Thrones.

Miscellaneous:

I have absolutely been loving WordPress! I was so unsure about it but now that I have figured it out it is so easy to use. Plus I feel like I am reaching such a broader audience that I had before!

I hope everyone had a great May! Here is to a great (and hopefully warm) June!

xoxo

May Beauty Favourites

Hey guys! So for the month of May I did not purchase many beauty products until the end of the month. So most of my favourites come from my Boxycharm this month!

may fav

First is the Convertible Brow from The Brow Gal. I got this item in my Boxycharm so I won’t go into too much detail about it. I like it because it is easy to use and gives a variety of shades so I can create the perfect match to my brow shade.

Next is the Temptu Liquid Glow. I have never tried a liquid highlight before but I am now in love! This one by Temptu is more on the natural side, giving a subtle glow to my skin. I also find that this highlight does not emphasize texture on my skin as much as powder highlights. It also lasts all day! Really loving this highlight, I use every time I wear makeup!

I recently started using the Baby Lips lip balm by Maybelline and I have fallen in love with them again. It makes my lips feel moisturized by not too thick and goopy compared to some other lip balms. Also the coloured ones give a nice wash of colour to my lips. The only thing is that I do not like the scent. Otherwise loving this lip balm right now!

Another Maybelline product that I have been loving this month is the Fit Me Concealer. This is my first time using this concealer and I love it! It is really easy to blend out and lasts all day! It has medium coverage; it covers redness well but I find my dark circles peak through if I’m not using a colour corrector. I’ve only had this concealer for a week and a half but I am already in love!

Finally is the Crown Round Contour Brush from my Boxycharm. I personally use this brush for my foundation and I really enjoy it. I have never used a densely packed brush like this one but now I wan to try more! I find it gives a nice smooth finish and does not sheer out my foundation coverage. A nice cheaper option compared to the expensive Artis Brushes.

And those are my favourite beauty products for the month of May! I have a bunch of new makeup I am testing out for June so hopefully I will find some new favourites 🙂

April Favourites

Hey guys! Sorry I did not do one of these posts in March, I was super busy with school at the end of March. This post will therefore include things I’ve enjoyed the past two months. Hopefully now that I’m done school I will have more time to blog! I have some exciting things planned this month!

Fashion:

This past month has definitely been a sweats kind of month for me, since I’ve been so busy studying for exams that I just throw on some clothes and get going. So while sweat pants and leggings are not the most glorious pieces of clothing, I will share my favourites just in case any of you are in the market for some. My favourite sweatpants are from Roots. I own the original Salt and Pepper but I would love to another pair sometime since I basically live in mine. My favourite leggings are from Lululemon, specifically the Align Pant II. I know these are pricey pieces of clothes, but I think they are worth it for two reasons. The first is the quality is better so they are much comfier. Second is that they will last longer. I’ve had my Roots sweatpants for three or four years now and they still look and feel brand new. Anyways that is probably enough talking about sweats!

Music:

My music taste as been all over the place the past two months! Starting in March my one housemates has slowly been getting me into hard rock/punk/hard core music. So if you’re interested in slowly dipping your toes into this music I would recommend bands like Moose Blood, Turnover, the Front Bottoms and Pianos Become The Teeth.

On the flip side, I have been in love with Lord Huron as well lately. I had heard their music a couple years ago, but the show 13 Reasons Why rekindled my love of them with their song “The Night We Meet”. If you like that song I also highly recommend “Ends of the Earth”. Just great mellow indie music.

Finally a song I had on repeat while studying was the song “Wish I Knew You”by the Revivalists. It is a song despite multiple listening I am still in love with. I will be looking into more of their music this month.

Books:

Unfortunately the past two months the only books I have been reading are my textbooks. But now that I am done school I am hoping to have much more time to read!

TV Shows/Movies/Youtube:

Even though I did not read much the past few months I did watch a lot of tv shows, movies and Youtube videos!

The two TV shows that I watched a probably the most popular ones this past month: Riverdale and 13 Reasons Why. I like Riverdale because I find the show is not trying to be realistic, instead it is meant to entertainment and intrigue it’s audience. It is dark and mysterious, but I also enjoy the little bits of comedy sprinkled throughout. A very well made show. Now I was really excited to watch 13 Reasons Why because I had read the books a couple years ago and I think it is an important story to tell. I think the actors did a fabulous job and the show has a great soundtrack.  Now I could probably write a whole blog post about my feelings for this show but all I will say is that the first step to breaking down a stigma is to talk about it and this show definitely brought the conversation of suicide up in the public.

Finally for Youtube I have been enjoying the videos of Jenn Im/clothesencounters. I adore her style and I really enjoy the editing she does on her videos. She just gives me so many good ideas!

Miscellaneous:

I am quite sad because now that Easter is over I can’t find Mini Eggs anymore. I have a serious Mini Egg addiction haha! I have one bag left from Easter and once I finish that bag they will all be gone until next year. I wish Mini Eggs were available all year.

Those were my April (and a few March) favouritesI Hope everyone had a good month. I am so excited by the warmer weather coming soon!

xoxo
