I Did Kayla Itsines’ 12 Week Bikini Body Guide

Hey guys! So one of my New Year’s resolution was to get in shape this year. It hit me when I was down to Mexico this past Christmas. I was climbing a Mayan monument with my brother and was literally out of breath after 20 steps. I was fed up with feeling unhealthy and out of shape, and wanted to make a change. I have been working out on and off for years, but always had trouble sticking with it. I remember someone once mentioning to me the Bikini Body Guide (or BBG for short). After taking look at what the guide entailed, I decided to try it for myself.

What is BBG?

BBG is a 12 week program created by Kayla Itsines. You can purchase the ebook or buy the Sweat with Kayla app (I found the pdf online……..). The first 8 weeks has 2-3 resistance training sessions (gym workouts) and 2-4 light cardio sessions. The last four weeks also includes HITT training.

The workouts are grouped together, so weeks 1 and 3 are the same thing. Every four weeks the workouts get more intense, but are similar to the past weeks. For example, week 1 is 15 push-ups, week 5 is 15 decline push ups and week 9 is 20 drop down push ups.

Each workout consists of two circuits with four moves each that you do twice. In total there are eight moves that you do twice each. The full workout is supposed to take around 30 minutes. There are three workouts for each week, focused on either legs, arms or abs.

What did I think of the BBG workouts?

I like to preface with saying that I was very out of shape when I started this guide. I 100% should have started with some basic exercising before starting this. I was exhausted by the end of the workout. After doing weeks 1-4 I decided to do them for another week in order to build up my strength more before moving forward. So it took be 14 weeks to complete the 12 week guide.

I really like the layout of the workouts. Since I’m not super in shape, it would take me around 10 minutes to complete a circuit. I could complete the workout in around 40 minutes.

I like that the workouts don’t need a ton of equipment so I could do some of them at home. But the moves I hated the most were the ones I had to do most often. There is a ton of push ups and burpees in this guide. By week 6 the burpees were starting to hurt my knees, so I reduced the amount that I was doing.

Overall I liked the leg workouts the most. I was able to master the majority of the moves and I felt satisfied after completing the workouts. I equally disliked the arms and abs workouts. Half of the arm exercises are some form of a push up, so as someone who isn’t good at doing push ups I was not pleased. Abs depended on the week because some weeks were harder than others.

For the cardio portion I did it twice a week. I tried a few times to do three times a week but that was too much for me. I would do yoga for one of my cardio sessions. For the other session I would either go swimming or go on a walk. Since I was going this in the dead of winter it was way too cold for me to run outside. I also never did the HITT workouts. I was going to do them, but I was so busy with school that I didn’t have time to add another work out.

Overall I am pretty proud of myself for doing all 12 weeks of the guide. There were a few weeks here and there that I would miss one cardio or workout, but for the most part I did it all. I think this is the longest I have ever consistently worked out in my life.

What changes did I notice in my body?

One of the biggest changes I noticed was the amount of energy I had. After not working out for months, I was shocked at how energized I was. I liked to work out before class, and the days that I did work out I was much more awake in class than the days I hadn’t. Since it was also winter, I noticed that working out really helped improve my mood. Winter can be depressing (like actually seasonal depression is a thing), and I noticed that overall I was in a better mood compared to past winters.

Another HUGE difference was my immune system. I have a relatively week immune system. Last winter I was sick the majority of the time, so I was so surprised that I didn’t get sick ONCE this winter. I had a few days where I might feel a little bit of a sore throat or a little congested, but it was gone the next day. I had no colds and no illnesses, which is absolutely shocking for me.

Physically I did get stronger. For example at the beginning I couldn’t do one sit up and by the end I was able to do ten. Visually I did not notice a difference. I did take before and after photos, but I don’t see a difference. To be fair, its only been 3 months, and it takes awhile to actually see changes. Finally, I did manage to lose 10 pounds over the three months. Unfortunately, I stopped working out during exams and then while I was away in Europe, so I have since gained those 10 pounds back (oops haha).

Would I do BBG again? Would I recommend BBG?

I have decided to group these questions together because I won’t be following BBG again BUT I would recommend.

First I have decided not to do BBG again because I hated half of the moves. But what I will be doing is taking the format and placing in my own moves. So for those who are curious, I am planning on working out at the gym three times a week and then doing cardio twice a week for the next three months. I will definitely update you guys about that in August!

While I am not doing BBG again, I think the structure is really great. I think BBG would be good for anyone who is in a rut or needing a routine that will keep them motivated to go to the gym. I think it is a good place to get started.

Overall I think BBG gave me the push I needed to get in shape. It helped me both physically and mentally, and now I can’t wait to do my own thing! Let me know if you have any questions in the comments, I’d be more than happy to answer them 🙂

University Room Tour

Hey friends! Today I am sharing a little tour of my room that I had in university. Sadly I have moved out and this room is no more, but many of the pieces will be coming back with me to my parents’ place. If you are interested, I recorded a room tour as well, and it is up in my Instagram’s story highlights (@xoxoxoleelee). Anyways, I will try to link what I can, but a lot of this stuff is a few years old. But you can use this as inspiration, especially for how to make a small room cute!

First, I just want to mention that I did paint the walls when I moved it, but my landlord didn’t want me to paint them write. The previous paint was this ugly brown-purple. I decided to paint my walls a light grey, but the previous paint underneath gave the ways a slight purple hue, which I don’t mind.

Photo 2019-04-20, 3 29 26 PM

On the wall across from my bed I have all my prints. Most of this I also had in first year in my dorm. I got Le Chat Domestique et Son Caractere poster and the green typewriter poster during a poster sale that happened at my university. The watercolour church print I got at an antique sale. The cat and dog prints I got in a small boutique in Toronto. My three other prints I got from Indigo. The only one I could print is my animal alphabet one.

Photo 2019-04-20, 3 29 55 PM

Next beside my window I have this geometric shelf. I actually had bought the shelf, and when I came home my dad told me to return it and he would build me one himself. My dad is a pretty handy man, so he built this shelf! On top I have some battery powered candles and then a book that is cute in the shape of an L (since my name starts with an L lol). I am unsure where the L came from, since my mom got it for me, but I have seen similar ones a ton of places. I’ve seen them at Antropologie, Winners and on Etsy. On the other shelf I have my small perfume collection. If you are curious what perfumes I own let me know and I can do a review of them!

Next up beside my bed I have my beside table. It is the BRIMNES Nightstand from Ikea. Both my lamp and my alarm clock are broken haha! My lap shade doesn’t sit straight, and I have an old iHome that doesn’t connect to my iPhone and the alarm doesn’t go off anymore. I only keep it because it still tells time correctly. Next I have a little dish that is meant for jewlery but I keep hair elastics and lip balms in. Beside that I have a rose quartz skull. I got in at the CNE in the International Pavillion, but there are similar ones online like this one. Finally I have my essential oil diffuser. I got it for Christmas, but I believe it is the Aroma Om from Saje. Above my nightstand I have this print that I got from an antique fair as well. The frame I got from Winners.

Next up is my bed. My bed frame is from Ikea, it is the BRIMNES Bed frame with storage and headboard. I really like it because it has storage drawers underneath. I also like the headboard because it has a shelf and little chubby holes on the side. I don’t know where my duvet is from, because that was a Christmas present (a running theme for items in my room haha). I got my backrest/reading pillow from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I got my sequin pillow and my stars pillow case from Urban Planet two years ago.

Above my bed I have this National Geographic World Map Decal that I got from Indigo. Really random, but I love looking at maps, so I knew I wanted one in my room. I really like the look of this one because it looks vintage-y. On top of my headboard I have a bunch of knick-knacks. I don’t know where the L is from, and beside is it a picture frame and jar that was a gift. I have a bunch of mugs from various places, many of which were birthday presents. I got from Light Box from a place in Toronto, but tons of places sell them. Then I have some plants and another sign my mom got me, along with my lamp.

Next up is my desk (and sorry for the bad lighting, it was getting dark outside). My desk was actually my grandmothers old vanity. My dad just repainted it and changed the hardware. On top of my desk I have some little knick-knacks, along with some jewlery cases and my Himalayan salt lamp. I got mine from Winners. I also keep my speaker on my desk, which is the Sony SRX XB40 portable speaker (I love it!). I also keep all my makeup on top of my desk. If you are interested in how I store my makeup, check out here. I also have a cork bulletin board with my schedule and some pictures (also yes I know my calendar was still set to February ahaha). Above my desk I have some photos hanging along with my polaroids stuck to my mirror.

My desk chair is also from Ikea, I can’t seem to find it on their website though but to be fair it is three years old. I do have a stain on the seat, from makeup of all things, so I just covered it with a blanket for the photo. The final part of my room is my closet, which is way to messy to share. But it has two huge sliding mirrors to cover it, which was super nice to have and to take ootds in.

Photo 2019-04-20, 3 33 11 PM

And that is my room tour! I loved this room so much and I am so sad to have left it! I had so much fun living in my university house, and I will miss it dearly. But stayed tuned for a new room tour once I get settled back into my parent’s place!

Life Update – Done University!

Hey friends! Here is the Life Update that I promised. So much stuff is happening in my life and it is definitely affecting my blog, so I wanted to let ya’ll know about it!

So I was pretty MIA most of April. I had my final university exams! I am now officially done university, which is pretty crazy. I think I mentioned this before, but I was going to university to study Communications. I have finished my degree, but have decided to do another year. I will be attending a different school, so I had to move back to my parents place.

I have spent the past week moving back home which is a has been a ton of work. I have a mini room tour up in my Instagram highlights, and I am planning on doing a full blog post for next week. Now I am completely redoing my room back home, since the last time that was done was when I was 15 haha! But it’s been a slooow process. I will definitely be posting updates about that as well.

The really big thing is that I am going on a big trip to Europe! I am pre-writing this post, the day it goes up I will be leaving! I will be gone for two and a half weeks, but I am trying to pre-write a ton of posts. I might be posting less on Instagram though, since there will be a seven hour time difference, and I am unsure how much WiFi I will have. I am already planning on writing some posts about my trip when I come back.

After I come back this summer I will just be working, so hopefully everything will go back to normal. I actually want to send this summer revamping the look and function of my blog, so stay tuned for some updates!

And that is what is up with my life right now! Going through a ton of changes, and just thought I would like ya’ll know 🙂

Book Review 002

Hey guys! I know it’s been awhile since my last book review, and that’s because it has taken me forever to finish the series in today’s post. I started the first book back in August and I just finished the last book a couple weeks ago. To be fair, I do find it harder to read during the school year, especially when I am also binging a tv show. Even though this series took me forever to read, I still absolutely loved it. Today’s book review is going to be on the Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard.

feb 2019 002

The Red Queen series is comprised of four novels: Red QueenGlass Sword, King’s Cage and War Storm. The story is set in the future where the world is divided by two types of blood – red and silver. Those with silver blood have superpowers and have enslaved the regular red bloods. The main character, Mare, discovers that she has a third type of blood which enables her and others to have stronger powers than those with silver blood. Mare is forced to pretend she is a long-lost princess in the first book, and the following books focus on a civil war breaking out through the country.

If I were to sum up this book, I would say it’s Game of Thrones with superpowers. I think my favourite part of this whole series is the world that Aveyard has created. It has many political elements that makes GoT so popular, like having a bunch of different royal houses. The super powers are what makes this novel stand out. Each house a different power, and then the newbloods (which the main character Mare is) all have very unique powers. Aveyard’s descriptions of the powers are amazing, so much that I can picture what it would be like to control fire, water, electricity, etc.

I think Aveyard did a great job of developing the characters throughout the series. The characters had depth and had flaws, making them more life-like. Mare is a quite negative and cynical character, which sometimes made her insufferable but it is also understandable given all that she goes through the series. Also I loved Cal, her love interest. Like I want a Cal in my life haha.

The only negative for me is that this series, especially the last two novels, are very long and drawn out. The third book was definitely my least favourite because I found it pretty repetitive. I honestly found some parts of it boring. The other thing I didn’t was that while the last too books are drawn out I found the ending rushed. *Minor spoiler* there are a ton of battles within the later books, and the climax of the book is a battle scene. Compared to some of the others in this series, I found that the last one was very quick in comparison. I also found the ending very incomplete. Now this might be so Aveyard can produce a sequel series in the future, but either way I was not very satisfied by the ending.

Overall I really liked this series, mainly because of the amazing world that Aveyard created. If you are looking for a fantasy, dystonia novel with some Game of Thrones level politics, then I would definitely recommend this book. I wouldn’t say this would be everyone’s cup of tea, but if this book sounds interesting to you then I would definitely recommend it because then you would probably love it.

And that is my book review! I will hopefully have another book review coming up within a couple weeks of all the books I read in my English class last semester.

Broke University Student Tries HelloFresh

Hey guys! So one of my goals of 2019 was to try and blog twice a week. The plan is for Friday to still be beauty/makeup/skincare posts, while Tuesday is going to be a whatever-I-want day. Sometimes it might still be beauty related, other days it might be book reviews or other content. There will be a post every Friday, but Tuesdays might not happen every week just as I figure things out.

Today’s post is something a little different. I have seen so many Youtubers do sponsored posts with HelloFresh, and I was really interested in trying it out. But being a broke university student, I was resistant. But when Allana Davison (an amazing Canadian Youtuber who you should totally check out) had a 50% off coupon code I knew it was finally time to check it out.

Just want to preface this whole review by saying that while I am a broke university student, I do consider myself a foodie. My housemates all agree that I am definitely the best cook in the house. I put an effort into planning my meals for the week, making sure to eat healthy, well-balanced meals with a ton of variety. So I was excited to try HelloFresh, so satisfy my food curiosity. (Also please excuse my ugly kitchen, I like in a student house okay).

Photo 2019-02-03, 1 47 34 PM

What is HelloFresh?

For those of you who do not know, HelloFresh is a meal kit delivery service. They offer a variety of meals, from regular to veggie to family friendly. They offer 3-4 meals for 2 or 4 people.

Now the first issue I had with HelloFresh is that they currently do not have a one person option. This meant that I would have leftovers with every meal. Now I personally do sometimes make meals for multiple people, like when I am making pasta, because it’s easier. But other meals, like a burger for example, are just nicer if it was for one meal.

I decided to do three meals for two people, which would give me six meals in total.

Pricing

For a broke student, pricing really makes the difference. The coupon code made the cost $39 CAD. This made it so each recipe would be about $13, or each serving $6.50. Now that isn’t bad for getting a nice, restaurant quality meal but I could definitely make cook cheaper than this. Overall $40 on HelloFresh isn’t bad, but it’s when it’s full price when it becomes ridiculously expensive.

The full price is $79 CAD. This breaks down to $26.33 for one recipe, and $13 per recipe. Now those prices are probably what you would pay if you are going out to restaurants or ordering in food. But $80 is probably what I spend a week for my full grocery bill. HelloFresh only provided me with six meals, so I still needed another dinner plus my food for breakfast and lunch. With HelloFresh, you are definitely paying extra to have everything thought out and shipped to your house.

The Meals

The meals are delivered straight to your house in a nice refrigerated box. I decided to have mine come on Sunday, but you can pick any day of the week you want. Each recipe was in one bag, with the meat separate. Having the meals come in one bag is nice and convenient, but if your like me and share the fridge with a room/housemate it’s a little much. It definitely took up a ton of unnecessary room in the fridge. All of the packaging that was used to shipped the box was recyclable, but there was a decent amount of plastic within the meals.

Photo 2019-02-03, 1 48 20 PM

Dinner One – Pan-Fried Gnocchi

The first dinner was a pan-fried gnocchi with roasted squash and ricotta. This meal was super easy to make. All the squash was pre-cut, so the only thing I had to chop was the garlic – which I find hilarious because I normally use pre-minced garlic. This meal only took me two more minutes than the time given by HelloFresh, and that was only because my burner wasn’t working properly at first.

This dish reminded me of something I would eat in a restaurant. It was not a flavour combination I would normally cook on the regular, so it was nice to try something new. But having it the second day it was not as good. The gnocchi became gummy and the flavours were just too much. Could have used just one serving.

Dinner Two – Retro Burger

This burger is not your ordinary burger – it’s a fancy burger. It had came with caramelized onions and roasted sweet potato fries. I decided to try the burger because I was curious how hard/easy it would be to turn this in two separate meals. I made half the fries and made the beef patties, but I only cooked one patty and saved the other one for another night. I finished making the burger two minutes shorter than the suggested time.

This burger was similar to the pasta in the sense that it was really nice the first time but a little too much the second time. It was super easy for me to make the fries and the burger a different night.

Dinner Three – Creamy Tarragon Chicken

This chicken came with roasted red potatoes and brussels sprouts on the side. This meal was definitely my least favourite. I already had roasted vegetables the past two meals, so I was tired of it by this meal. As well, my sauce didn’t thicken up and it honestly didn’t have that much flavour. I didn’t even put the sauce on the chicken the second time it ate it. It took me only a minute longer than the suggested time.

Renewing the Subscription

I personally thought that you had to go online to renew your weekly subscription, but it is actually an auto-renew subscription service. So you can imagine my surprise when the following Sunday a HelloFresh box showed up to my house. And of course it was full price. I was just given three random meals. I immediately deactivated my account so it would not ship again.

Overall Thoughts

I understand why people like using HelloFresh but it is not for me. It is super easy because it just comes straight to your house. You can go online and choose what you want to receive, or you can just be surprised. The ingredients in the box are perfectly portioned, so there is no waste. All the meals were great the first time, so if I was cooking for two people this would be great.

I will not be getting HelloFresh for a few reasons. First, there is no single person options and I didn’t like the meals enough to want to eat leftovers. Second it’s hella expensive. I am currently trying to save money, and the convenience for me isn’t worth it. I actually enjoy planning out my meals and going grocery shopping, so the convenience is not meant for me.

But just because I don’t want to use HelloFresh again doesn’t mean I don’t think it’s a good idea. If you are someone who currently is spending tons of money going out or ordering in, this is cheaper than that. I think this is also useful for someone who is learning to cook because the recipes were all easy to make. They are also all very quick to make as well, they were all estimated to take between 30-35 minutes and their estimates were pretty accurate. Honestly, I think it is important it evaluate your lifestyle and then decide whether or not HelloFresh is worth it.

And that is my HelloFresh review! I hope you guys liked it, I know this is a little different. Let me know if there is anything you would like to me try or do food wise – I love cooking!

Self Care Tips

Hey guys! Today’s post is going to be a little different than my normal posts. My fellow Canadians know that this past Wednesday was #BellLet’sTalk day. For my international followers, this is a day where conversations about mental health are encouraged. With each text, call and use of the hashtag, Bell donates five cents to mental health initiatives. While there are some issues with this campaign, I believe the core idea of talking about mental health is important. That’s why I am writing this post a few days later because we shouldn’t just talk about mental health on one day of the year, but every day.

I have many close friends who have mental illness, but another important aspect is that everyone has mental health. I have learned about mental health and illness in a few of my classes and different workshops (and I am in no means an expert in the topic), but something I learned was the mental health continuum. On the x-axis is mental illness, and on the y-axis is mental health. Which means someone can have a mental illness and have flourishing mental health while someone can have no mental illness but languishing mental health.

All of this means that mental health is important for everyone. While I do not have any mental illnesses, I have experienced periods of low mental health. This time last year was probably one of the lowest points of my life. I have have come a long way, but I still have bad days sometimes. But I have come to learn how to help myself get through it and feel better, and I thought I would share some of them with you guys.

self care

1. Allow yourself to feel all the feelings

Sometimes you just need a good cry. I know that sometimes I try to hold it in and continue doing whatever I’m doing. But I find it’s better to just let it all out. I will just cry and sob my heart out, and then once I have naturally stopped crying that’s when I pick myself up and keep on going. It’s important to acknowledge your feeling instead of bottling them all up.

2. Talk or Write it out

There are times that even after I cried it out that I am still bothered by something. I often find that I need to talk things out with people to really feel better. Last year I was so afraid of sharing some of my feelings with my housemates that I would literally cry in my room while they were in the living room. I eventually got over that and now I am highly fortunate that I feel comfortable talking with my housemates about any of my worries. But if you don’t have someone to talk to, sometimes it’s also helpful to write it all down. The process of writing can help release all those feeling bottled up inside.

3. Do something you love to do

This probably isn’t surprising, but I love to do my makeup. I find that doing my makeup just helps me relax and decompress. My mind isn’t focused on my worries or anxieties but instead on my makeup application. By the time I’m done my makeup I always feel calmer. But for you this might be something else. It could be drawing or cooking or playing an instrument. Just find something that helps bring you some peace of mind.

4. Get some exercise

There is a ton of scientific research that shows that exercising is a mood booster. I find if I am stressed about something it really helps me get it out of my system. Even just going for a walk and getting some change of scenery can help improve your mental state.

5. Pamper yourself

There is a reason why people joke about doing a face mask as a form of self care. Sometimes you just need to take some time and pamper yourself. I shared this on my story last Friday, but I had such a nice self care/pamper night. I worked out and had a nice long, hot shower (baths are nice too if you have one). I lathered myself in nice smelling lotion and put on my comfy sweats. I ate dinner and then sat on the couch the rest of the night. I painted my nails and did a face mask while watching Netflix. It’s nice to do something just for yourself, but of course not using it as an excuse to procrastinate. I felt relaxed and refreshed, ready to do work the next day.

And those are my five very simple tips to help take care of your mental health. I am by no means an expert here, and I really suggest you do your own research along with seeking professional help if you need to.

I hope you guys liked this post. I love talking and discussing all things beauty and makeup, but mental health is also important to me. Take care of yourself my friends ❤

2019 Goals

Hey friends, happy New Year! For my first post of 2019, I wanted to share with you some of the goals I have for this year. I have heard a few people use the terms goals instead of resolutions and I like the term. Goals seem like something more long term, but also something I can come back to and re-evaluate later in the year. Some of these are related to beauty and my blog, and others are more personal goals. I decided to share them with you guys to help keep myself accountable. I have a habit of starting projects and never finishing them. I want to change that this year so I am writing down my goals, and I thought why not share them with you guys.

1. Update Blog

I really want to update the look and function of my blog. I am also looking into maybe buying my own domain. Finally, I want to monetize my blog this year. I bought myself a book about blogging, and I am also going to get my housemate (who is a software engineer) help me with the technical aspects. I think useful to do research before doing major changes.

2. Reach a 1000 followers on Instagram

This was my goal last year, and I didn’t reach it. I got just over 500 followers this year. I think just posting regularly and not forgetting to post when I get busy will make a different

3. Increase posting blog posting frequency

I have finally got into the rhythm of posting once a year. Now I want to work my way up to twice a week. I might try posting twice every other week for awhile, to figure out what other day I want to post. I hopefully want to get to twice a week by the summer.

4. Complete all 12 weeks of BBG

I struggle with keeping consistent with the gym. I decided to try BBG, which is a 12 week program with all the exercises pre-determined. I have a feeling it’s going to be difficult, but having a schedule might help be actually stick to it. I am also setting a reward for myself if I complete the challenge. I am definitely going to write a blog post about my experience to stay tuned.

5. Start budgeting monthly/save money for Europe

I want to travel to Europe this summer, but I need to save up money for the trip. I am the queen of frivolous spending, so I really want to try and curb that this year. Apart of this will include going on a low-buy for makeup – meaning I will only buy makeup and beauty products when I have finished something, using giftcards and as rewards for meeting certain goals. The one exception is going to be my Boxycharm, but that I will budget for. I will probably do this until I have saved enough money for my trip. I really want to use more of my collection that I already own – so stay tuned for throwback product posts.

6. Worry less, be more present

I am graduating this year, and I have no idea what I am going to do. I have a habit of worrying about the future. This year I want to work on staying more present and enjoying the last few months I have in university, and also whatever happens afterwards.

Those are all my goals for 2019. I will probably re-evaluate them once I am done school. 🙂 I want to know YOUR goals for this year, leave them in the comments down below! Here’s to a great year!

Q+A/Life Update

Hey guys! So I haven’t really shared much about myself on this blog, and I’ve been super MIA lately, so I thought it would be helpful to do a Q+A/Life Update. That way you guys could get to know me more plus understand why I go long periods without posting.

Question: Who are you???

My name is Lea and I am 21 years old. I am from Oakville, ON, Canada, and I study at McMaster University in Hamilton, ON. This fall I will be going into my final year of my degree, and I am studying Communications. I am planning on probably doing some more schooling after that. For those of you who don’t know, Communications is about how human communicate; I mainly focus on mass media and social media.

Question: Why did you start this blog and your Instagram?

I started my blog and Instagram after attending a professional panel in my second year Public Relations course. The professionals said having a blog is a great way to practice and improve my writing skills. Having a blog is also great to put on my portfolio for when I am applying to grad school and future jobs. I have always been passionate about makeup and beauty, so it only felt natural to write about it.

Question: So why are you so busy?

During the school year, if I’m not posting very often it’s probably because I’m stressed out with school work. Currently, I am working because it is summer. I work as a Deck Supervisor for my local pool (aka I am the supervisor to the lifeguards). I work long shifts and many hours, so I am often tired when I get home. On top of that, I am volunteering with my school’s faculty to help plan our Orientation Week. It involves a lot of work, so I often come home and I have to work on that or drive out to Hamilton for meetings. So working basically full-time, volunteering part-time and trying to also have a social life means that I don’t often have time to blog.

Question: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I will hopefully have completed either my Masters in Communications or be a Public Relations Practitioner. I would love to be working for a fashion or beauty company in their communications department. I would also like to have more time to focus on my blog, and hopefully have my own Youtube channel! And a nice apartment in Toronto (probably the hardest thing to accomplish lol) with my own cat and dog!

Question: Name 5 fun facts about yourself!

  • I have two cats and a dog, all adopted!
  • I LOVE food. I originally was going to make this a food blog, but the kitchen in my student house wasn’t aesthetically pleasing enough to make it work. But I watch loads of Food Network.
  • Speaking of student housing, I live with four engineering students! While our academic focuses are completely different, we get along and have so much fun together!
  • I am 5’8″ and the tallest person in my family. My brother is jealous haha!
  • I have never left North America! I have done a decent amount of travelling, like I’ve been to New York City twice and I’ve skied all over the place, but yet to go anywhere farther. I have a long list of places that I would love to travel to someday.

Final Question: Why is your blog name LeeLee if your name is Lea?

My friends wanted to give me a nickname, but Lea is already kind of short. The running joke is that my name is actually Lee, because every supply teacher I had in elementary and high school would call me Lee instead of Lea. Somehow the name turned into LeeLee and it stuck!

And that is it for my little Q+A/Life Update. I hope you guys enjoyed it! Let me know down below if you have any other questions about me 🙂

Bullet Journal 2018

Hey guys! So this year I decided to start a bullet journal and I absolutely love it! So I thought since the new month is about to begin, I would share a few things that I learned about bullet journaling just in case you guys were thinking of starting one too!

Photo 2018-01-28, 3 25 33 PM

Just to be clear, you guys don’t have to restrict starting at the beginning of a new month! You can start whenever. I have showed a few people my bullet journal, and whenever they see it they’re always like “I can’t do this, it invovles too much work/creativity/whatever”. It’s important to remember it’s your bullet journal. So you can do whatever you like! I have just offering some suggestions/ideas, because I personally love searching Instagram and Pinterest for ideas.

My bullet journal is the Leuchtturm1917, which I got from Chapters. I like it, but almost any pen I use bleeds through the paper (this means that you can see what you written on the other side of the page). If this bothers you I would not recommend this one, but otherwise it’s great! It has nice ribbon to bookmark, a elastic to hold it together and many helpful bullet journal things like an index and page numbers already built it. Another thing to note is whether to get a grid or dotted journal. Grid is similar to grid paper while dotted is kind of like gird just minus the lines connecting all the boxes together. It’s really up to personal preference – I just like the look of dots more, and I don’t need the squares to draw straight lines.

For pens I didn’t want to spend a lot of money just in case I didn’t like bullet journaling. So I got a pack of Sharpie felt tips which came with black, green, blue and red. Then I got another pack of coloured felt tip pens from Dollarama. As I started to get more into it over the month, I bought a pack of Stabilo BOSS Pastel Highlighters from Amazon. Also Michaels had a sale on their scrap booking stuff, so I was able to get a bunch of stickers and washi tape there for super cheap! Always look for sales!!!

Next I am going to show you guys some pictures of my spreads and explain what I did and why I like it. And the end I’m also going to show a simpler example of a bullet journal spread since mine are pretty creative.

My first spread is my future log for 2018. On the left I have the year and my resolutions and then on the right I have all the month spread out. I like having this by seeing my resolutions written down it reminds me of them. I also like having all the months written out that way if I have to quickly look up a date farther in the year it’s easy to find.

A second option for a future log is one that is shorter than a year but longer than a month. Now since I am a university student and our semester are four months long, it made the most sense for me to put in a future log where I can put all my assignment. So this log has all my assignments for my Winter Term. You can put other dates or appointments in your log, but I kept my strictly school related. Sometimes I make mistakes when doing my bullet journal. I usually use white out, but as you can see in March, I decided to cut out a piece of paper and cover the whole area since it was going to be too much to white out. This is a really easy way to fix large mistakes. It is also possible to use pretty coloured paper to makes your mistakes purposeful. (Also looked at my February, I have so many midterms and assignment it’s going to be awful! #rip)

Now this is completely optional, but I decided to do almost like a cover page for the month of January. I like this because it helps split up my months. I found the idea on Pinterest.

Monthly spreads are very useful! There are many different ways to do monthly spreads, but I prefer the full calendar month approach the most. It’s just the best way for me to visualize my month.  This is where I put all my assignments, appointments, events, etc. I find it helpful to just flip to this page and see what I have to do in later weeks.

Next is the weekly spreads. I have done four so far this month. I have really switched it up with every spread because I am just trying to figure out what does and doesn’t work for me. As you can see from my spreads, I am less of a schedule-every-day person and more of a general to do list person. So I usually put a few things for every day at the beginning of the week and fill in my days as I go. I also put a huge space for my to do list. Other things I like to include is my dinner schedule and a blog schedule for the week. One of my New Years Resolution is to drink more water, so I decided to put a water tracker to help motivate myself to drink more water. There are so many other trackers and things that you can add to your bullet journal.

Weekly spreads don’t have to be complicated though. So this picture is from Pinterest and it shows that bullet journals can be very simple. As well, two of my housemates also have bullet journals and they are very simple. There monthly spread is all the dates written down in a straight line and then space to write done events, appointment, etc. It’s important to do what you find helpful. My bullet journal will probably become simpler as I become busier.

Finally, one of my favourite things about my bullet journal is that I can put lists in the middle of the weeks. Before my bullet journal I have both an agenda and a notebook for all my lists. Now with my bullet journal I have narrowed it done to one book. As you can see I did a cleaning list for my room and also a page to brainstorm ideas for my blog. But you can do whatever you like! Like I’ve said many times, there are so many different ideas online for what you can do.

And that is my bullet journal! Wow this is probably one of the longest posts I have ever written! Let me know if you guys enjoyed this and if you would like be to continue posting stuff about my bullet journal.

Winter Essentials

Hey guys! Today I am sharing some things that help me survive through the cold Canadian winter. Just a miscellaneous of different things that I enjoy and thought would be worth sharing!

Photo 2018-01-21, 2 30 10 PM

First is a super cozy knit sweater from Forever 21. It gets really cold where I live, so I basically live in knit sweater from November to April. I have been really into turtlenecks, but sometimes they can be really a little too much when wearing a heavy knit. I like this sweater because it has a mock turtleneck so it’s the perfect in between. But ya I’m a sucker for any knit sweater really.

Next it’s important to keep my fingers warm outside, so got to have a good pair of gloves or mitts. My dad got me these ones from The Bay last year and I love them! This year they have a different design but the quality of these mittens are great. They have a fleece inside and then a knit outside to keep my hands nice and warm. Also they’re so patriotic! Highly recommend these for all my fellow Canadians.

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but the Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm is my favourite lip balm. I own four of these: one beside my bed, one with my makeup, one in my purse and one in my school bag. And I usually have a few backup ones around the house. What I like is that they are lighter than the regular Nivea light balm, but still give intense hydration. It’s great and I will probably continue using these babies for a long time.

Next is a moisturizer. If you guys remember from my Beauty Empties post, I was looking for a moisturizer that would give my oily skin some hydration but also not break it out. I decided to try the Pacifica Kale Luxe Oil-Free Multi Cream. It is designed for oily and blemish prone skin. I decided to try it because the brand is 100% (and cruelty free!) so it doesn’t have as many bad products that would clog my pores. I have been really liking it! I use a tiny pea size amount and leaves my skin feeling hydrated and fresh! It has an interesting scent, but I like it!

Finally, for Christmas my Mom got me a diffuser! Along with the diffuser my Mom got me some essential oils, and the one I have been using the most is the Immune Antibacterial Diffuser Blend from Saje Natural Wellness. I am always sick, and this blend is supposed to help relieve the symptoms of cold and flu. The combination of eucalyptus, myrrh and cinnamon smell like medicated but I love it! I feel like it helps me breathe much better at night!

And these are my winter essentials! Let me know what you guys like to help you get through the cold winter months!
